Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Adds Muscle to The Monster Hunter’s Survival Guide

Dwayne Johnson, The Monster Hunter’s Survival Guide

Dwayne Johnson apparently has a thing for monsters these days because he’s joining the live-action adaptation of the comic book series, The Monster Hunter’s Survival Guide.

Maybe “The Rock” is trying to redeem himself a little bit because his stint in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island doesn’t look like it will do anything but hurt his Hollywood career, which might have something to do with him brushing off the persona of “The Rock” and returning to the wrestling ring. Always helps to have alternatives.

The Monster Hunter’s Survival Guide was originally a comic mini-series created by Paul Russ in 2010. The comics were basically a how-to guide for hunting and capturing a variety of creatures that included everything from vampires to Bigfoot. According to Deadline, the film will be produced by Simon Kinberg through his Genre Films shingle.

Depending on who gets chosen to sit in the director’s chair, The Monster Hunter’s Survival Guide could turn out to be a decent movie. With films like Fast Five on his resume, Johnson has shown that he can actually do a good job on the big screen. Unfortunately, films like Journey 2 and The Tooth Fairy reveal that he doesn’t always make the best choices. Still, I can’t really blame the guy for wanting to branch out from the action genre with some family-friendly films. I just wish he would choose some better ones.

In addition to doing a little monster hunting, Johnson will also be showing up as Roadblock in G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation and Snitch, where he plays a guy that becomes an informant for the DEA to reduce his son’s prison sentence.
