Who in the world is Tintin might you ask? Well on December 21st you will get to find out with his new feature film. And no it’s not that tiny dog off to the left there… You’ve probably never heard that name unless you’ve read comic books from the 1940’s. It’s a tale about a young reporter named Tintin, who will stop at nothing to capture the perfect story, thus leading him into a world of adventure.
The Adventures of Tintin was originally a comic book series written by a man named Georges Remi, better known by his pen name “Herge”. Directed by Steven Spielberg, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn has been optinated to become a full-fledged movie, shot using state-of-the-art 3-D motion capture technology!
The film is based on three of the comic books: The Crab With the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn, and Red Rackham’s Treasure, all of which, were written in the 1940’s. The movie has already had its world premiere but is set to be released in North America on December 21, 2011. It has received a wide variety of reviews and is described by some as “thrilling” and “eye-catching”. But some critics also state that, while visually entertaining, the characters are somewhat diminished by lack of expression and detail.
Setting what others have said aside, I personally would give this movie a chance. Georges Remi would turn over in his grave if he heard that his stories were going to come alive in an IMAX theater in 3-D! (…He probably wouldn’t know what an IMAX or 3-D is, but I’m sure he’d be excited!) Ultimately, it’s up to you as the viewer to decide.
So take the family down to theater for a night. The movie is rated PG after all! (…for adventure action violence, some drunkenness, and yes, some brief smoking…)
