A Look Behind-the-Scenes with the Joico Color Team Creating ‘Hunger Games’ Hair

Joico is a hair and color supplier for professionals who worked on the hair designs for The Hunger Games. Recently they posted on their Facebook page, some behind-the-scenes photos of their artists creating hair color for the film.

The Hunger Games is definitely set up to be the next big trilogy to invade the cinemas. The first movie is set to hit theaters in March and is based on the popular trilogy written by Suzanne Collins.

Joico Guest Artist and Hollywood Stylist Cherry Petenbrink was asked to create the haircolor designs for the film’s leads as well as 500 extras for the film.

As most know, (and for those who don’t) The Hunger Games takes place in a post-apocalyptic future and focuses on the main character Katniss Everdeen played by Jennifer Lawrence. Katniss is a teenager sent from her impoverished “District” to compete in the annual fight to the death held in the glittering Capitol city. Joico was told to create a brunette shade that didn’t convey warmth. Then to contrast the “mousy hue” of Katniss, they citizens of the Capitol were to look sophisticated and edgy.

They used bright colors and pastels to create the members of the Capital and some 500 of the extras. You can see the most defiantly with Elizabeth Banks’ characters bright pink hair shade.

With the amazing results that the Joico team created, they have been asked to create the hair colors for the entire series of planned movies. The stylist, Petenbrink said:

“It was a lot of pressure to come up with 500 completely different looks,” she says. “But it was also a really fun and creative challenge. I truly think that once they see the hair, people will say that nothing like this has ever been done.”
