A new banner for Snow White and the Huntsman shows that not all fairy tales are bright and cheery as we get a dark (and artistic) look at Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, and Charlize Theron in a scene that borders on nightmare.
Forget about jolly elves and singing to birds in Rupert Sanders’ action-oriented take on the classic fairy tale because this Snow White is wearing armor and toting a sword, and it doesn’t look like she’ll be munching on any poison apples in the near future.
Kristen Stewart (from that little Twilight series) has the lead as Snow White, and Chris Hemsworth (Thor, The Avengers) is the Huntsman that teaches Snow how to kick butt when he decides he doesn’t have what it takes to be a bad guy after he’s ordered to cut out her heart. Charlize Theron rounds out the cast as the Evil Queen, looking mean enough to cut out Snow’s heart on her own so I don’t even know why she tried to pass the job on to someone else. I guess it has something to do with her thinking royalty shouldn’t have to actually do the dirty work. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) also stars as the prince who wants to win Snow White’s heart, although this version of Snow obviously doesn’t need a Prince Charming to handle things for her.
I think the new banner, recently revealed by Universal Pictures, looks awesome, and I can’t wait to see the actual movie posters when they’re brought out. Individual character posters are a popular marketing tool these days and Snow White and the Huntsman is perfect for this time of treatment because the movie is filled with plenty of strong characters that can stand on their own without any problems at all.
Snow White and the Huntsman will be riding into theaters on June 1, 2012.
