Stephen King fans are in for a special treat, with A&E offering up a unique feature in preparation for December’s four-hour Bag of Bones miniseries that includes (in typical King style) a nod to other works from the King of horror and a few spooky photos to help get you in the mood for a ghost story.

Bag of Bones airs on Sunday, December 11th and Monday, December 12th, but you can start preparing for it now by visiting Dark Score Stories, an online photo and narrative journal launched by A&E that provides a little history and insight into the characters, including those played by Pierce Brosnan, Annabeth Gish and Melissa George.

Dark Score Stories is done as an actual documentary of the town and its citizens so get ready to leave reality behind for awhile, and don’t be too surprised when people in some of the photos start moving around. This is a ghost story after all, and the normal rules don’t apply.

In addition to delivering a nice spooky vibe, the online prequel also offers plenty of hidden details that will be especially appreciated by fans of King that are familiar with his past work. I don’t want to ruin the hunt for you so I won’t spill too many details here but do keep in mind that King has had a few of his characters working as authors so don’t be surprised if you stumble across titles by Misery’s Paul Sheldon or The Dark Half’s George Stark. There’s plenty more tucked inside the photos so get ready to test your eye and your knowledge of all things Stephen King, and don’t forget to check out the wicked trailers for Bag of Bones. Some of King’s work doesn’t make the trip from page to screen in the best of conditions but it doesn’t look like this one suffered any during the journey.
