So recently, we got an exclusive guest post from author, Robb Pearlman and I have to say, I loved reading it. And thankfully, I was able to get a review copy of his book as well. This isn’t the normal book that has turned into a movie, but actually the other way around, and then some. This book gives you the endings of famous books, movies and television in a quick and convenient package. It is the perfect book for all of the pop-culturists out there like myself. But be warned, this book is full of spoilers.
Pearlman takes famous endings from books and movies and television shows and reveals what they are and simplifies them to hilarious perfection. He has an innate ability to put to words the perfect one or two sentence ending summary for some of the most complicated movies.
Take Movie Ending # 89:
“Jake Nicholson admits to ordering the code red, and despite his warning, we can handle the truth – A Few Good Men”
Could it have been summed up any better? No, I don’t think it could. And they only get better. He also sums up some of the most famous television series finales as well.
Lets look at Series Ending #101:
“Everyone dies on the island-but some of them sort of don’t, while others come back. It’s confusing. – Lost”
Love it. That show was confusing and weird and I have to say that I think his synopsis probably grasps it the best.
There are so many long, puzzling endings to many lengthy, complex movies and even shows that sometimes you need someone to be straight with you and tell, for real, what the ending was all about (and in a nice neat one to two sentence package!)
But Pearlman doesn’t stop there; he goes on to give us the inevitable endings for life’s scenes. Whether it is the truth about movie previews or the unavoidable truth behind Murphy’s Law, he makes sure you know how it is going to end.
Look at Life’s Ending #188:
“You will accidentally hit reply all.”
SO TRUE. If this hasn’t happened to you yet, it will. There is always a moment in your life when are to busy and think you can blast a quick reply email to your significant other, but instead it replies all, including your work contacts.
Pearlman’s brutally honest truth behind the life’s lessons are exactly what you need t hear, whether you are ready to accept is a different lesson all together. I love the way he is able to get right to the gist of something in a concise way, that is also almost always hilarious.
Life Lesson #339: is an example of that:
“Based on the amount of time you spend at Starbucks, people think you are homeless, not a hard-working novelist”
It’s a hard life lesson to learn, but a true one. Robb Pearlman knows that and is able to give us what we need to hear.
Here are my top five favorite endings:
- #74: Nobody understands modern art, they just pretend to.
- #98: Leo lets go of his runaway train of a wife (maybe) finishes the job and (maybe) goes home to his kids. Maybe. You’ll go mental. – Inception
- #133: Your father played Hide and Seek to give himself a break from you.
- #227: Romeo and Juliet share a bond of true love but don’t live, and nobody’s happy after. – Romeo and Juliet.
- #240: Its Pocahontas. In Space. And Blue. – Avatar. (Writers note: I’ve been saying this since it came out!)
Overall, this is a great book to own. I love movies, I love television, and I love books. And on top of that, I love pop culture, so this is the perfect all in one reference and comedy guide! I definitely recommend buying this or giving this as a gift. I spent the whole night reading them out loud to my boyfriend and making him try to guess what the endings belonged too. It is fun and definitely helpful if you don’t feel like reading that incredibly long winded author or watching the over the top boring director tell their stories. Robb Pearlman has you covered.
So, if you love the entertainment world and spoilers, this is the book for you.
Also, check out his guest post after reading this review!
