The Dark Knight Is Rising!

The highly anticipated Dark Knight Rises trailer was debuted during the previews before Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows.  But now, Warner Bros. has released the trailer to the viewing public via the internet.  You can check it out below!

Directed by Christopher Nolan, The Dark Knight Rises, opens in theaters on July 20, 2012.

The movie will star Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Matthew Modine, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, Josh Stewart, Christopher Judge, Adam Rodriguez and Rob Brown.

This film, along with the other Dark Knight movies, is based loosely on the DC Batman comics.  TDKR will introduce Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) and Bane back into the Batman realm!  It will be interesting to see how they tie these two villains together.

Catwoman first appeared in the movies in Batman Returns (1992), played by Michelle Pfeiffer, alongside the Penguin.  Bane later appeared in the sequel, Batman and Robin (1997), and was played by Jeep Swenson, a pro wrestler turned actor.  The role of Selina Kyle will be played by Anne Hathaway and Bane will be played by Tom Hardy.

Halle Berry later would play the role of Catwoman in her own movie in 2004, that received less than great reviews.

The official description of The Dark Knight Rises is as follows:

Following the death of District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman assumes responsibility for Dent’s crimes in order to protect Dent’s reputation and is hunted as a fugitive by the Gotham City Police Department. Eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, Gotham has recovered from the Joker’s killing spree, and is experiencing a time of peace. A warning from the “enigmatic” Selina Kyle foreshadows a coming cataclysm, prompting Batman to return to the city where he must stop the villain Bane and his plans to destroy Gotham

I’m personally excited to see how they will portray Bane.  According to the comic books, Bane is one of the more dangerous villains.  He has incredible amounts of strength and above average intelligence making him a formidable opponent.  In the movie Batman and Robin the writers really downplayed Bane’s intelligence, turning him into a mindless minion, following the orders of Ivy and Iceman.  (Played by Uma Thurman and Arnold Schwarzenegger)  But, after watching the trailer, it looks as though Nolan has capitalized on Bane’s intelligence turning him into a lethal criminal mastermind!  We’ll see if it makes a worthy finale to the Batman trilogy.
