Amanda Seyfried is Les Miserables

I have probably seen and read Les Miserables a million times (then promptly began singing “Master of the House” for days afterward) so when a reboot comes along, I am excited. This new reboot comes bearing actress Amanda Seyfried in a leading role.

According to Deadline, Seyfried is in final negotiations to play the part of Cosette in the on screen adaptation of the novel. The cast will also include Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Eddie Redmayne.

Les Miserables has been a movie, a musical and a broadway play, but it all started with the 1862 Victor Hugo novel. In 1985 it was adapted into a broadway musical and because one of the longest running musicals ever.

It takes place in 19th century France during the rebellion. The novel focuses on the struggles of ex-convict Jean Valjean and his experience of redemption. The story is historical fiction because it contains factual and historic events. The only rebellion that is depicted is the June Rebellion, a student uprising.

The reboot is being directed by Tom Hooper who recently won an Oscar for his film, The Kings Speech.

I personally love this novel and the subsequent adaptations so I am excited to see how it goes. I also am hopefully because of the great cast they are putting together.

Les Miserables is scheduled to hit theaters on December 7, 2012.
