Courtesy of Yahoo! Movies, a new photo from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has debuted. The still features (from left to right) William Kircher, Graham McTavish, Martin Freeman, James Nesbitt and John Callen. The upcoming adaptation is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, and we have to (unfortunately) wait until December 14th to experience it.
Peter Jackson’s remake of the book by J.R.R. Tolkien has been in the works for several years, and the fruit of that labor is finally paying off. The film follows Bilbo Baggins as he begins his own epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. The kingdom that long ago was conquered by the dragon Smaug. He is approached by Gandalf the Grey and joins the company of thirteen dwarves led by legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Their quest takes them through the Wild where they encounter Goblins, Orcs, Wargs, Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. While they head to the Lonely Mountain, they meet the creature that will forever change Bilbo’s life: Gollum. He gains possession of the “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful abilities. It is this very ring that holds the fate of all Middle-Earth, more than Bilbo even knows.
The film is going to be split into two parts and released separately.
The two parts, titled The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again, are being filmed back to back and are in production in New Zealand; principal photography began on 21 March 2011.They are scheduled to be released on 14 December 2012 and 13 December 2013, respectively.
