Secret Messages In The Shining?

Almost everyone knows about the film, The Shining, and the book is based on written by Stephen King. Even if you haven’t seen it, you know what it is about and you know its iconic moments thanks to countless shows and movies spoofing it. Well now, a new documentary claims there are subliminal messages through out the book adaptation.

The 1980 horror movie (although I think it more qualifies as a psychological thriller) was directed by famed director, Stanley Kubrick. Now, Rodney Ascher, a first-time director, is looking to expose alleged subliminal messages that Kubrick inserted into his film.

The documentary is called, Room 237, which is named for the forbidden room that Danny, the psychic boy is told never to enter. Over the years, fans of the movie have asserted that there are clues throughout the film suggesting that the U.S. faked the moon landing in 1969, and tons of messages relating to politics.

While this film is based on the book of the same name, King has said this was his least favorite remake of one of his book, even going so far as to say he hated it. It was also obvious that Kubrick took a few liberties with the source text so it will be interesting to see if there is any merit to the documentary.

One of the biggest attractions of the documentary is the claim that Kubrick helped stage the Apollo 11 moon landing and then planted clues about the hoax throughout “The Shining.”

The director of the documentary told Entertainment Weekly magazine:

“Some of this stuff seems funny, because people are coming up with very big ideas based on incidental details, but others might see it as a little scary.”

This seems a little crazy, but if the documentary is filmed well, it will definitely bring the new director to the peoples attention. This seems to have a big draw to it as well because people would love to know that there was something special and secret going on right before their eyes. Everyone loves conspiracy theories, so we will have to watch the documentary and see what we think then.

It will debut at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah next month.
