No one can deny that Michael Fassbender is glorious and apparently director Justin Kurzel agrees. Fassbender has been added to play the key role of the titular King in an upcoming adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.” The adaptation will be set in the play’s original 11th century setting and has been reported to be retaining the original dialogue of the drama.
Jacob Koskoff and Todd Louiso will provide the screenplay for Macbeth with Iain Canning and Emile Sherman producing.
The tale of “Macbeth” is considered one of his darkest and most powerful tragedies. Set in Scotland, the play dramatizes the corroding psychological and political effects produced when its protagonist, the Scottish lord Macbeth, chooses evil as the way to fulfill his ambition for power. He commits regicide to become king and then furthers his moral descent with a reign of murderous terror to stay in power, eventually plunging the country into civil war. In the end, he loses everything that gives meaning and purpose to his life before losing his life itself.
“Macbeth” has previously been adapted several times already. One of the more recent ones being a faithful remake in 2006 by Geoffrey Wright with Sam Worthington in the lead while. Another adaptation released just a few years earlier from Billy Morissette, restaged the action to a 1970’s fast food chain in Scotland, PA.
There is no word yet on who else will star in the period drama or a projected release date for the film.
