Travis McGee might finally be appearing on the big screen. The film adaptation that has been in the works since late 2009 with 20th Century Fox seems to be finally moving forward with Paul Greengrass taking the helm as director. The film also has  had Leonardo DiCaprio in the starring role since 2009 when the project was first optioned.

The Hollywood Reporter has stated that Dennis Lehane will adapt the screenplay which is based on the novel entitled “The Deep Blue Good-by” written by John D. MacDonald. The novel was first published in 1964 and marks the beginning of nearly two dozen “Travis McGee” novels. The book is officially described as follows:

Lehane is already prominently known as a novelist as his own novel was adapted into a film called Shutter Island that also starred DiCaprio back in 2010. DiCaprio will also produce Travis McGee alongside Jennifer Davisson-Killoran, Peter Chernin and Amy Robinson.

There is no word yet on when production on the project will begin or who else we can expect to star in the film.
