The upcoming silver screen adaptation for R.J. Palacio’s recent bestselling novel, Wonder, was first announced last November by Lionsgate and at the time John August was in talks to write the screenplay. However, now it seems, that Jack Thorne, most known for “Skins” and The Scouting Book For Boys, will be adapting the novel for film.

“Wonder” was released in February 2012 and is officially described as follows:

August (Auggie) Pullman was born with a facial deformity that prevented him from going to a mainstream school—until now. He’s about to start 5th grade at Beecher Prep, and if you’ve ever been the new kid then you know how hard that can be. The thing is Auggie’s just an ordinary kid, with an extraordinary face. But can he convince his new classmates that he’s just like them, despite appearances?

In the novel, Auggie suffers from Treacher-Collins syndrome, a rare craniofacial deformality. Due to August’s surgical needs and emotional struggles, he was home-schooled through the fourth grade. Succumbing to pressure from his parents, August agrees to attend Beecher Prep, a selective enrollment school where he was accepted. The novel follows the struggles and triumphs of August in his first school experience.

“Wonder” was a #1 on the The New York Times Best Seller list and was also on the Texas Bluebonnet Award master list.

There is no word yet on who will star in the project or when we can expect the film to hit theaters. You can, however, watch the book trailer below from its 2012 release:
