Helena Bonham Carter has officially been cast as the fairy godmother in the upcoming live-action feature adaptation of Cinderella from Disney. I mean, she kind of looks what I always hoped my fairy godmother would look like and act and can she just be America’s fairy godmother?
Cinderella is set to be directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh while Aline Brosh McKenna and Chris Weitz wrote the film.
Carter joins fellow actress Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother, Lily James as the titular lady, and Richard Madden as the prince.
Helena Bonham Carter is known for her roles in films such as A Room with a View, Fight Club, The King’s Speech, and playing the villainess Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter series, as well as for frequently collaborating with her domestic partner, director Tim Burton, in films such as Planet of the Apes, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland, and Dark Shadows. In 2012, she played Miss Havisham in Great Expectations, and Madame Thénardier in Les Misérables.
Plans call to shoot Cinderella this fall in London with David Barron, Simon Kinberg and Allison Shearmur producing.
There is no word on the production timeline for the film or when we can expect it to hit theaters.
