It seems that often film adaptations come in twos. Another big screen project featuring the iconic character of Frankenstein is in the works. James McAvoy has joined the cast of the project from 20th Century Fox entitled simply, Frankenstein. McAvoy is set to play the role of Victor Frankenstein and joins Daniel Radcliffe who is set to play Igor.
Frankenstein will be directed by Paul McGuigan. The script, which was adapted from the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley, was written by Max Landis.
“I began to pick apart our knowledge of ‘Frankenstein’ and discovered that the public’s idea of this myth comes from a million different places,” Landis said during an interview. “I became committed to recontextualizing it all so it all worked in one story. By the end of the day, it’s a period piece and yes, it’s from Igor’s perspective, but man it’s cool. It’s the best thing I’ve written.”
There is no word on a projected release date for Frankenstein or when production is set to begin.
This film should not be confused with I, Frankenstein, which is based on the graphic novel of the same name. I, Frankenstein stars Aaron Eckhart and set to debut in theaters on January 24, 2014.
