Idris Elba (the man we all wish would play The Doctor one day, amiright?) recently revealed he would be both producing and starring in the upcoming adaptation of Uzodinma Iweala’s bestselling novel “Beasts of No Nation.” The adaptation comes from Red Crown Productions and will be directed by Fukunaga, most known for working on Jane Eyre and Sin Nombre.
The novel was first released in 2006 and is a debut novel for the author.
In this stunning debut novel, Agu, a young boy in an unnamed West African nation, is recruited into a unit of guerrilla fighters as civil war engulfs his country. Haunted by his father’s own death at the hands of militants, Agu is vulnerable to the dangerous yet paternal nature of his new Commander. While the war rages on, Agu becomes increasingly divorced from the life he had known before the conflict started—a life of school friends, church services, and time with his family still intact.
Elba is set to play the Commandor in the project. In addition to Elba and Fukunaga, Amy Kaufman, Daniela Taplin Lundberg and Riva Marker will produce with Bill Benenson and Daniel Crown executive producing. There is no word yet on when production or filming will begin or who else will star in the project.
