Likely attempting to not be a box office flop like The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Summit Entertainment has released a brand new behind-the-scenes featurette to explain the world of its upcoming dystopian film, Divergent. The featurette is entitled, “Taking a Stand.”
Divergent is based on the novel of the same name by Veronica Roth. It is the first novel in her series that is set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
Opening in theaters and IMAX on March 21, 2014, the big screen adaptation stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Zoë Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Ben Lamb, Christian Madsen, Amy Newbold, Ashley Judd and Tony Goldwyn.
Has the world’s youth ended its love affair with supernatural and/or dystopian film adaptations in vain of “Twilight” and “The Hunger Games?” After the recent bust of several similar movies in the box office it seems probable though maybe it can be accounted by the terrible storylines and attempts at adapting made by the studio. Only time will tell if Divergent is the next big franchise or not
