Ridley Scott has announced his plans to create a sequel miniseries to the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. The miniseries, titled 3001: The Final Odyssey, is based on Arthur C. Clarke’s 1997 novel of the same name which is the final book in Clarke’s Odyssey series.
The series will begin with the discovery of Frank Poole’s frozen body floating in space. Poole will then return to Earth (it’s now the year 3001) and find that life has changed a lot.
Stuart Beattie will write the adaptation. He said,
“I have always been a fan of Clarke’s extraordinary Odyssey series, and certainly Kubrick’s adaptation of 2001. I am thrilled to be part of bringing that legacy to audiences and continuing the great cinematic tradition that this story and its creators deserve.”
3001: The Final Odyssey is excepted to release sometime in 2015. There is no word on who will star in miniseries.
