interent_vice_Wide

We finally have the first trailer for the upcoming big screen adaptation of “Inherent Vice” and if you weren’t excited before, you should be now! The film comes from director Paul Thomas Anderson and is adapted from the novel by Thomas Pynchon.

Inherent Vice is a comedy-noir set in Southern California in the late ‘60s, with Joaquin Phoenix starring as detective Doc Sportello. It’s been a while since Doc Sportello has seen his ex- girlfriend. Suddenly she shows up with a story about a plot to kidnap a billionaire land developer whom she just happens to be in love with. It’s the tail end of the psychedelic sixties in L.A., and Doc knows that “love” is another of those words going around at the moment, like “trip” or “groovy,” except that this one usually leads to trouble.

Other members of the impressive cast include Benicio Del Toro, Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Josh Brolin, Maya Rudolph, Martin Short and Jenna Malone. The film is narrated by Joanna Newsom and Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood contributes the score.

Inherent Vice will first premiere at the New York Film Festival on October 4th before opening in theaters on December 12th. You can watch the trailer below:

Fox is getting another comic book television adaptation by way of DC Comic series “Lucifer.” Fox and Warner Bros. have officially ordered a pilot to be based off the comic series according to a report from Entertainment Weekly.

“Lucifer” follows the Lord of Hell who has grown bored with his underworld throne and devilish kingdom. He decided to relate to the buzzing metropolis of Los Angeles, where he opens an exclusive piano bar called Lux. (I won’t lie, I’d probably check that bar out.) The titular character is actually a supporting character in the comic series “The Sandman” from Neil Gaiman.

Tom Kapinos is signed on to write and executive produce the pilot episode.

There is currently no word on who will star in the project or when production will begin on the series. The pilot will likely air sometime in late 2015 if picked up for a full series.

The big screen adaptation of The Maze Runner finally released in theaters and it has already been green lit for a sequel that will release as soon as September 2015. The news was announced by 20th Century Fox via Twitter with the first piece of concept art for the film which you can see above.

The film is set in a post-apocalyptic world and follows the story of Thomas (played by Dylan O’Brien), a young man who wakes up to find himself in a community of kids welcoming him to the “Glade” – a large expanse of land completely surrounded by a concrete maze.

The now-franchise is based on the young adult book series of the same name written by James Dashner. The sequel film, titled The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials will release next year on September 18. Wes Ball will also direct the sequel.

The book series has a third book titled “The Death Cure” meaning the film will possibly be turned into a trilogy. Or a four film franchise if it goes the way of similar films such as The Hunger Games.

Matt Smith, who is sadly no longer playing The Doctor on BBC’s “Doctor Who” had officially joined the cast of the big screen adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (and I feel all is right with the world again.)

The film is based on the wildly popular novel written by Seth Grahame-Smith. The movie is a horror-comedy spin on Jane Austen‘s Pride and Prejudice. The heroine, Liz Bennett (James), is pressured by her family to marry into a wealthy upper-class home but chafes at the stiff social mores of Victorian England. Instead, she feels that she should help defend the countryside against the onslaught of a horrifying zombie plague.

Smith will be playing the role of Mr. Collins, a handsome young gentleman who is on the lookout for a wife and proposes to Bennett.

The film version has long been in the works and is finally moving forward with the cast that includes Lily James, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote and Douglas Booth.

The project is scheduled to begin shooting later this month on September 24. There is no word yet on an anticipated release date in theaters.

CBS Orders Supergirl Television Series

CBS has officially given the greenlight to a series based on the “Supergirl” comic series. And they must feel pretty confident in it because the network completely ignored the “in development” stage and just ran with a series order for the project.

Supergirl is a character from DC Comics. The series will follow Kara Zor-El. She was born on Krypton however she escaped amid its destruction years ago. And since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

“Supergirl” will be a one hour drama from the production company that created “Arrow” and “The Flash” for The CW. Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler will be serving as writers as well as executive producers with Sarah Schechter.

Currently, there are no plans to have a crossover with the DC series on The CW but that doesn’t mean it will never happen.

There is no word yet on when “Supergirl” will enter production or who the studio is looking to star in the series.

Charlie Hunnam Had a “Nervous Breakdown” Over Fifty Shades of Grey

Charlie Hunnam, the famous face from “Sons of Anarchy” famously resigned from the highly sought after lead role in the film adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey last summer and now he is saying that when he quit he had a nervous breakdown.

Hunnam told Moviefone that he quit the role of Christian Grey because “I just had like … frankly, something of a nervous breakdown.” He continued,

I just said, “I can’t … I can’t …” To fail on such a grand scale—because “Fifty” [is] going to be massive, it’s going to be huge. I really didn’t want to fail on such a grand scale and I just couldn’t transition from Jax Teller to Christian Grey in 48 hours. I bit off more than I could chew and it was painful. I loved the character and I wanted to do it.

Hunnam also explained that it would be difficult on him to go straight from completing his filming on “Sons of Anarchy” to working on the movie. So he dropped the movie during to the complicated scheduling.

I was going to finish Sons at like 11 p.m. Friday night, get on the plane Saturday morning to Vancouver for Fifty, missing the whole first week of rehearsal and start shooting Monday morning.

In my opinion, Hunnam. You dodged a bullet. But regardless, the role of Grey went to Jamie Dornan and will release in theaters on February 14 2015.

A live-action Hansel & Gretel movie based on the graphic novel by Neil Gaiman has been optioned for the screen and is being developed by Juliet Blake. The graphic novel was illustrated by Lorenzo Mattotti and will be released this October.

Based on the famous fairytale, the story follows the brother and sister who discover a candy house that’s essentially a trap for kids set up by a wicked witch.

In a press release for the project, Gaiman said,

“For me, retelling Hansel and Gretel was a way of telling an old tale in a way that made it immediate and true, and about us, now. It reminds us of how paper thin civilization really is. It’s about hunger, and about families. I’m thrilled and delighted to be working with Juliet Blake to bring Hansel and Gretel to the world again, and to show people how much this story has to say to us.”

There is no word on when production will begin on the Hansel & Gretel live-action adaptation. Blake has not announced whether or not she will also be directing the picture but she will be producing.

No talent has been announced for the project or who Gaiman or Blake will look towards to star.

According to a report released by The Hollywood Reporter, Lake Bell is planning to bring the novel “The Emperor’s Children” to film. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Claire Messud.

“The Emperor’s Children” was published in 2006 and is officially described as follows:

“The Emperor’s Children” is a dazzling, masterful novel about the intersections in the lives of three friends, now on the cusp of their thirties, making their way—and not—in New York City.

There is beautiful, sophisticated Marina Thwaite—an “It” girl finishing her first book; the daughter of Murray Thwaite, celebrated intellectual and journalist—and her two closest friends from Brown, Danielle, a quietly appealing television producer, and Julius, a cash-strapped freelance critic. The delicious complications that arise among them become dangerous when Murray’s nephew, Frederick “Bootie” Tubb, an idealistic college dropout determined to make his mark, comes to town. As the skies darken, it is Bootie’s unexpected decisions—and their stunning, heartbreaking outcome—that will change each of their lives forever.

The novel was adapted for film by Noah Baumbach who was initially planning to direct before stepping back. Bell has previously directed one other film, 2013’s In a World…
