Next Games and AMC to Develop a New The Walking Dead Mobile Game

A new “The Walking Dead” game is on the horizon. Next Games and AMC announced this week that a new mobile game based on the series is in production. The game will see the iconic television and comic book series characters come to life in the mobile medium.

The game is planned to have a launch date that coincides with season 5 of the AMC series.

“We chose to team up with Next Games because of their outstanding creative and technical talent, as well as a willingness to re-imagine the unique and compelling world of The Walking Dead, which has built a significant and passionate global fan community,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “We’re thrilled to be part of this next wave of games innovation and participating in a project that – like the show itself – is in service of the fans.”

Teemu Huuhtanen, CEO at Next Games, added,

“Our take on the undead survival franchise will match the against-all-odds action and moment-to-moment tension of the TV series. We want to find that sweet spot where gameplay and narrative inform and reinforce one another. Like AMC’sThe Walking Dead itself, we’re not giving away too many details right out the gate, but I can confidently state it’s unlike anything we’ve seen from The Walking Dead franchise on home or mobile gaming hardware before.”

The companies will announce additional details related to The Walking Dead game in the coming months.

Next Batman: Arkham Game May be Revealed Soon

According to a report from Kotaku, Gamestop has sent out a new shipment of Batman banners that may or may not be the advertisements for a “Batman: Arkham City” follow-up game. The banners are pictured above and are said to be going up in stores next week which just happens to be around the time that “Arkham Asylum” and “Arkham City” developer Rocksteady have reportedly marked as the window to announce their next project.

Rocksteady took the gaming world by storm in 2009 with the first in the franchise, Batman: Arkham Asylum, which saw its sequel, Batman: Arkham City, hit stores just two years later. The latest entry, Batman: Arkham Origins, developed instead by Warner Bros. Games Montreal, served as a prequel to the series instead of exploring the story threads left open at the end of “Arkham City.” So far the games remain one of the most loved franchise currently in stores.

The news remains unconfirmed by Rocksteady, Warner Bros., and GameStop. I guess we will not find out what the banners represent until next week.

If there is a new game on the horizon, what would you like to see in the next installment? Which villains do you think the Dark Knight should face next?

LEGO: The Hobbit Release Date Announced

lego1

We finally have a release for the upcoming LEGO game, “LEGO: The Hobbit.” Announced by Warner Bros, the game will release on April 11th on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, 3DS, Vita, PC and Mac.

“LEGO: The Hobbit” will feature a storyline that correlates with those depicted in the first two movies in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy.

From the makers of the immensely popular LEGO® The Lord of the Rings, comes LEGO The Hobbit, inspired by the first two films in The Hobbit Trilogy: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and the upcoming The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, productions of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM) as well as the collection of LEGO The Hobbit constructions sets. The interactive game of LEGO The Hobbit allows gamers to play along their favorite scenes from the films and follows the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins as he is recruited by the Wizard Gandalf to aid Thorin Oakenshield and his Company of Dwarves. Bilbo leaves the comforts of the Shire on a journey through Middle-earth to help the Dwarves reclaim their lost Kingdom of Erebor within the Lonely Mountain. Along the way, he is introduced to ravenous Trolls, dangerous Orcs and, of course, Gollum and his precious Ring. Players will utilize and combine the Dwarves’ unique abilities – often with hilarious results – to solve the most diverse Quests of any LEGO videogame to date.

Game Features:

  • Explore Middle-earth and visit key locations from the films, including Bag End, and trek through the treacherous High Pass over The Misty Mountains, or discover the depths of Goblin Town, Mirkwood and Rivendell.
  • Partake in Treasure Quests, mine for gems, discover loot from enemies, and craft powerful magical items or build immense new LEGO structures.
  • Play as your favorite characters from The Hobbit films, including Bilbo, Gandalf, and the Dwarves: Thorin, Fili, Kili, Oin, Gloin, Dwalin, Balin Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Dori, Nori and Ori. Each has his own special – and quite hilarious – ability. For example, Bombur can be used as a trampoline that enables his companions “belly-bounce” out of danger!
  • Collect, combine and forge new items in the Blacksmith Shop using Mithril, the most precious metal in Middle-earth.
  • Triumph in a game of riddles and learn to wield the power of The One Ring.
  • Play with family and friends with easy access drop-in, drop-out gameplay option. (Available on console only.)
  • Play with family and friends using wireless play. (3DS and Playstation Vita only and two copies of the game required.)

The game will likely be similar to the other “LEGO: Lord of the Rings” game that was released last year.

Batman-Arkham-Origins-Box-Art

The Wii U just can’t catch a break in the gaming world. The upcoming “Batman: Arkham Origins” DLC has officially been cancelled for the Wii U. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment confirmed the news with IGN.

The publisher wrote the following in a statement on the matter:

“Based on demand for DLC content on the system, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has made the decision to remove its offering of the upcoming all-new story campaign for Wii U.”

The good news is that if you were one of the (few) Wii U players who bought a season pass for the “Arkham Origins,” you will be issued a refund.

As for everyone else, no release date has been set for the DLC, which was teased at the start of the year. It is rumored that the DLC will focus on Mr. Freeze.

“Batman: Arkham Origins” is available now for the Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

All New Story DLC Announced for Batman: Arkham Origins

Warner Bros. Montreal officially announced that more DLC is on the way for “Batman: Arkham Origins.” The DLC comes in place of another map pack which was initially rumored. The new content will actually continue the story of the game. At the moment no title or description of the DLC has been released. However, one image was released which you can see above.

“Batman: Arkham Origins” was released in 2013 on Wii U, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC and featured a more expanded Gotham City compared to the previous games of the franchise. It introduced an original prequel storyline that occurs several years before the events of “Batman: Arkham Asylum” and “Batman: Arkham City.”

The game takes place before the rise of Gotham City’s most dangerous villains and assassins, the game showcases a young, raw, unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. As the story unfolds, witness identities being formed and key relationships being forged.

Telltale’s Game of Thrones Confirmed With Teaser Trailer

TelltaleGamesLOGO

A few weeks ago it was rumored that TellTale Games was working on a “Game of Thrones” video game similar to their extremely popular “The Walking Dead” series. At the time, the developer remained quiet about the rumors but at this weekend’s VGX Awards event, Telltale announced it had two new projects on the way one of which is an untitled GoT project.

TellTales Games went a step further and released a teaser trailer for their two new projects which you can see below.

Currently, it is still not known whether the game would be based on the HBO series or the source material, “A Song of Ice and Fire,” by George R.R. Martin. The HBO series is based on the novels from “A Song of Ice and Fire” written by Martin. He began the first volume of the series, A Game of Thrones, in 1991. He published it in 1996. Martin gradually extended his originally intended trilogy to seven volumes, the fifth of which, A Dance with Dragons, took him five years to write before its publication in 2011. Martin’s work on his sixth, The Winds of Winter, is still underway.

I am pretty sure we can count on TellTale to give us something amazing.

The Walking Dead” Season 2 Midseason Premiere Kills the Cable Rating Record

“The Walking Dead” from AMC broke their previous record of most watched show. Previously set at 7.3 million viewers for their Season 2 premiere in October 2011, the show outdid it self hitting 8 million viewers this time on February 12 of this year reports the Huffington Post. Combined with the encore showing, it was really more like 11 million. That’s not even counting online downloads.

According to AMC, the premiere was the “strongest telecast for any drama in basic cable history.”

Charlie Collier, president of AMC, had this to say about the show:

“‘The Walking Dead’ is one of those rare television programs that reaches both a core genre fan as well as broad audiences simply looking for a great, character-based story. We’re so proud of and grateful for the amazing team on both sides of the camera who works so hard and is so committed to making this a unique programming event.”

“That ‘The Walking Dead’ is now the most watched drama in the history of basic cable is staggering, just like our zombies.”

“It is a great night for AMC. We’re thrilled to see this incredible record breaking response to ‘The Walking Dead,’ and ‘Comic Book Men’ is off to a strong start as well. Congratulations to the teams behind both of these shows,”

Comic Book Men that Collier is referring to is a comic book reality show by Kevin Smith; Silent Bob nooch! It aired right after “the Walking dead” and was watched by only 2 million viewers. Which to me means that only two million of the viewers are comic book fans who probably read the original The Walking Dead graphic novels..

Forget about the ratings, hocking loosely related spin offs and the money symbols burning out their retinas. What about the show? Warning: Spoilers.

Show begins of course where they last left off. With the shooting of Zombie Sophia. The dust settles and it’s up to the farmers to go nuts and get dangerously close to the walkers. “I know. Let’s all be stupid and cry over our dead zombie relatives, then give them a chance to bite us.  Yes, scratches and bites is all it takes.  That’s why she’s all catatonic.

This is further compounded by Andrea walking around without a care in the world into dark barns and trucks loaded with destroyed walkers. Is this the development of la belle indifference where she is unable to see real danger or a sign that she’s become used to this? She doesn’t even go into the barn with her weapon drawn.  She could have fell backwards in the truck and into an open mouth that bites her from the impact of a pot hole. This is where I see the show finally spiraling into zombie movie domain. The theme? When idiots attack.

I cannot express how much I dislike Shane Walsh on the show. The bullying he does, the contempt on his face, the attitude that he carries himself with, and the way of which he continuously rationalizes his actions. I am continuously annoyed with him. Is there no other development of his character other than flip out and be loud? If that’s the goal, then Shane is a well written character. I feel sorry for John Bernthal the actor who plays him. I hope he doesn’t get type cast.

So Shane continues to flip out on Rick and vies for the matrix of leadership. Shane opens a barn full of walkers to prove a point, instead of safely killing them from the outside. Rick however has to make the hard choices such as shooting Sophia. The show is becoming less about zombie survival and more “Who’s the Boss?” but without comedy.

Poor Dale. Dale is the only one privy to watch the dead frog sing and dance when no one else is around. Shane only likes to reveal his true nature to him. Why? Maybe because he believes no one will side against him. Dale even attempts to explain this to Lori, but they’re all immune to logic. Here is a version of what I heard:

Dale: Shane. He’s dangerous.

Lori: Yes, he can be a hot head.

Dale: No. I said dangerous.

Lori: Hot head?

Dale: *sounding it out now* Dane-Jer-Us

Lori: * slowly * Haw-Tuh Heh-Ed?

Dale goes on to explain that Shane is a threat to their survival and he’ll eventually kill again. I recall saying this fairly recently in The Walking Dead Game: Dead Reckoning article.

To prove that the supporting cast is become more Teflon coated against logic, Lori is all annoyed asking that Rick does not abandon them to find Hershel; one of his kids is sick and he’s gone missing.

“We need Hershel for the baby.” Oh snap! Logic! W…What do I do? Quick, get Shane to flip out!

Then there’s the introduction of new survivors, all bent on shacking up with the rest of the Walking Dead cast and exuding feelings of unsavory intent.

When Rick refuses to let them join or reveal their main base, we hear “I thought we were friends.” All over bearing bullies and rapists tend to say this.

I was surprised that the writers didn’t drag the two interlopers story out and make it into a douche fest between them and Shane.

How did the show redeem itself in less than five seconds? Bam! Another head shot! Followed by some more gun play. I hope this is the beginning of a new running gag or theme. All premieres and finales end and begin with head shots. Maybe this will lead up to Shane’s final close up.

After all, Shane is getting too big for his britches, and only one guy gets to wear the sheriff’s hat around here.
