The Strain Renewed For Second Season at FX

Guillermo del Toro’s hit new series at FX has officially been picked up for a second season. John Landgraf, CEO, FX Networks and FX Productions announced the news today. He also said that season 2 would appear on FX sometime in the summer on 2015.

“The Strain” tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

Landgraf said,

“We’ve never had any doubts about The Strain. Working with Guillermo del Toro, Carlton Cuse, and the brilliant cast led by Corey Stoll has been everything we had hoped it would be and more. It is thrilling when you have a show that is a creative and commercial hit, which is a rare accomplishment in this increasingly crowded marketplace. We look forward having it on FX for as long as Carlton, Guillermo and Chuck Hogan need to tell this epic tale.”

“The Strain” has become one of the most watched original shows for the network, ranking as the #1 new series on cable (broadcast or premium) in 2014 in delivery of Adults 18-49. It also pulled in the top spot in recorded shows for the network with 12.7 million Total Viewers, which exceeded the network’s initial projection of 10 million.

del Toro commented on the renewal stating,

“I am thrilled! Another season to spread the virus! Working with Carlton, Chuck [Hogan] and FX has been immensely rewarding and we have such sights to unveil in the upcoming episodes—the blood hits the fan on this one, mankind becomes an endangered species.”

The series is based on the book series co-written by del Toro and Chuck Hogan.

FX Changing Controversial “The Strain” Billboards After Negative Reaction

As you can see above, the billboard artwork for the upcoming television series, “The Strain” on FX, is a bit disturbing. Even more so when you realize its several feet hire on the interstate. So, FX has decided to listen to the public with their ridiculous demands and take it down.

“We are in the process of replacing the key art for The Strain on outdoor media in several locations,” a FX spokesman said in a prepared statement.

FX has not announced how they are planning to replace the already paid for ad space.

Among those who have been complaining is Kate Aurthur, a writer for BuzzFeed, says,

“As a parent of small children — not to mention an adult human being who hates worms coming out of eyes — I’m surprised to see this image on public streets. I live in fear of my 4-year-old noticing it (he would cry, literally) and have taken to driving out of my way to avoid places where I know the billboard is…And I am not alone!”

Screenwriter Kristin Smith tweeted,

“Seriously, The Strain? I have to look at your disgusting eyeball billboard when I drive? Are you trying to make me crash and die?”

C’mon people. Stop being ridiculous.

“The Strain” is based on the novel series by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. It premiere on FX on July 13.
