“Bates Motel” Renewed for a Third Season at A&E

Bates Motel

“Bates Motel” has officially been renewed by A&E for a third season. The series stars (the impeccable) Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore as the iconic Bates family.

The series, is a “contemporary prequel” to Hitchcock’s 1960 film Psycho (based on Robert Bloch’s novel of the same name). It depicts the life of Norman Bates and his mother Norma prior to the events portrayed in Hitchcock’s film, albeit in a different fictional town (“White Pine Bay, Oregon,” as opposed to the film’s “Fairvale, California”) and in a modern setting. The series begins after the death of Norma’s husband, when she purchases a motel located in a coastal Oregon town so she and Norman can start a new life. As you can imagine, things do not go as planned as Norma becomes increasingly dependent on her son and Norman loses control over himself.

Network executive vp and general manager David McKillop said,

“The incredible writing team and talented Bates Motel cast has made this series one of the most compelling original dramas on television. The brilliant twists and turns of the past two seasons keep its loyal fan base coming back for more. We are so proud of the show.”

Produced by Universal Television for A&E Network, with Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin serving as executive producers for Carlton Cuse Productions and Kerry Ehrin Productions, respectively, Bates Motel will return in 2015. The current season is scheduled to run through May 5.

The highly anticipated season 2 of A&E’s “Bates Motel” has released two brand new trailers to tease the upcoming season. In the trailers we see both Norman and Norma Bates wand a little bit of what we can expect in the future. Season 2 begins early next year with Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga (whom I utterly love to death) reprising their roles as Norman and Norma Bates respectively. Kathleen Robertson, Paloma Kwiatkowski and Michael Vartan are going to be newcomers to the series.

The series is described as a “contemporary prequel” to the 1960 film Psycho (based on Robert Bloch’s novel of the same name). It depicts the life of Norman Bates and his mother Norma prior to the events portrayed in Hitchcock’s film, albeit in a different fictional town (“White Pine Bay, Oregon,” as opposed to the film’s “Fairvale, California”) and in a modern setting. No debut date has been set for the second season except for a 2014 tag. You can watch both of the extended teaser trailer for “Bates Motel” below:
