Gillian Anderson Joins American Gods Season 1

American Gods

The upcoming television adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s novel, “American Gods” has officially added Gillian Anderson to the cast! Starz and FremantleMedia North America are currently in production for the 10-episode first season of “American Gods” and Anderson is being reported to take on the role of Media, a sort of supernatural publicist for the New Gods who takes the form of different celebrities.

“American Gods” follows a world where there is a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.

The rest of the cast for “American Gods” includes Ricky Whittle (The 100) as Shadow Moon, Ian McShane (Deadwood) as Mr. Wednesday, Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) as Laura Moon, Sean Harris (The Borgias) as Mad Sweeney, Yetide Badaki (Aquarius) as Bilquis, Bruce Langley (Deadly Waters) as Technical Boy, Crispin Glover (Back to the Future) as Mr World, and Jonathan Tucker (Kingdom) as Low Key Lyesmith. Also appearing are Cloris Leachman (Malcom in The Middle, Raising Hope), Peter Stormare (Fargo, Prison Break), Chris Obi (Snow White and the Huntsman, The Counselor), and Mousa Kraish (Superbad, Fast & Furious).

The addition of Anderson is a reunion for the actress and executive producer Bryan Fuller, with whom she worked on “Hannibal.” Fuller also serves as a writer and showrunner alongside Michael Green. David Slade is directing the pilot and additional episodes. FMNA’s Craig Cegielski and Stefanie Berk are executive producing the series along with Fuller, Green, Slade and Neil Gaiman

Bryan Fuller’s new series, “Hannibal” is set to premiere on NBC on April 4th and the network has finally debuted its first trailer for the show. The series is based on the characters and word presented in the novel series written by Thomas Harris, published in 1999.

“Hannibal” will also star Hugh Dancy and Lawrence Fishburne. The official plot description is as follows:

One of the most fascinating literary characters comes to life on television for the first time: psychiatrist-turned-serial killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. In this new drama from Bryan Fuller, based on the characters from Thomas Harris’ classic novels, we see where this incredible story began.

Will Graham is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham’s unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone – even psychopaths. He seems to know what makes them tick. But when the mind of the twisted killer he’s pursuing is too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of Dr. Lecter, one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. Armed with the uncanny expertise of the brilliant doctor, Will and Hannibal (known as a serial killer only to the audience) form a brilliant partnership and it seems there’s no villain they can’t catch. If Will only knew…

“Hannibal” will also feature appearances by Gillian Anderson and Lance Henriksen. It should be noted that “Hannibal” should not be confused the other pilot based on Clarice Starling that will be appearing on Lifetime.

Fans always hoped that the world of “X-Files” would continue on somehow after the television series ended and the 2008 film was released. Bringing joy to many, IDW Publishing has announced that it will partner with Twentieth Century FOX Consumer Products to create a brand-new series of comics that will resume where the 2008 movie “The X-Files: I Want to Believe” left off.

Chris Ryall, IDW’s chief creative officer and editor in chief, commented of the recent announcement saying,

“Few shows have captured the zeitgeist and fans’ imaginations like ‘The X-Files,’ and fewer shows still have left people hungry for more in the way this one did. Our new series will be picking up where the second film left off, which will hopefully be as exciting for fans to read as it is for us to develop.”

“The X-Files” series aired for nine seasons on Fox between 1993 and 2002, and spawned two films. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson starred as two FBI agents investigating a wide variety of paranormal mysteries, while searching for the truth behind government conspiracies to cover up an extraterrestrial plot to colonize the planet.

IDW will be releasing the “X-Files” comic books as well as reprint classic issues that were published between 1995 and 2009. Wildstorm was the last company to hold the license for the beloved property before folding in 2010.

The publishing company is also the one behind much loved comic book series such as “30 Days of Night,” “Doctor Who” and “Star Trek.”
