Major Casting Rumors Swirling About Akira Remake

The remarkable manga/comic and cinematic awesomeness that is Akira is in the process of being remade with major casting rumors swirling through the channels.

According The Hollywood Reporter, it is strongly rumored that Garrett Hedlund was in talks to play the role of Kaneda in the remake. This film is going to be a massive live action science fiction epic (and I have a feeling that like the original, its going to rock my world and blow your mind).

The Hollywood Reporter has also posted a massive casting report about who might be cast in the film. For Tetsuo, the telekinetic character with deadly strength, there are two major candidates. Ezra Miller, the teen actor from We Need to Talk About Kevin, and Alden Eherenreich, who debuted his acting skills in Tetro.

There are also rumors that Gary Oldman might end up playing the Colonel, the character who is commanded to take down Tetsuo once his deadly power is realized.

As far as the female leads are concerned, two major (and incredibly lovely) leading actresses have been approached. We might see Helena Bonham Carter and Keira Knightley as the female leads.

If you haven’t watched the original Akira (or read the manga/comic) than I HIGHLY suggest you do so. It is brilliant and with a remake in the works, it’s definitely worth your time.
