Pilot Picked Up For Chelsea Handler Book

According to TVGuide, Chelsea Handler is getting a new show based on her life and one of her books. It has been reported that NBC has picked up the pilot based on comedienne’s book and real life stories, Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea.

It seems NBC is hoping on the bandwagon of comedienne (or comedian) based shows after the relative success of the sitcom, Whitney, based on the comedy of comedienne, Whitney Cummings.

While the NBC show will not star Chelsea Handler, it will revolve around a twenty something female character, very similar to Chelsea but without sharing her real life profession.

She currently is the host of her own late night talk show, Chelsea Lately, where she tackles a multitude of different subjects with fellow comedians and actors each night.

Handler will also star in a follow-up series to her E! show, Chelsea Lately, called After Lately. It will be semi-improvised and will focus on the behind-the-scenes action of Handler’s talk show.

Her published works include:

  • My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands (2005)
  • Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea (2008)
  • Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang (2010)
  • Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me (2011)
