Book To Film Adaptations Reign At NBR Awards

With the year coming to an end, award shows are in high gear to announce their winners and this year, it seems, is the year for book to movie adaptations.

After The Descendants were snubbed at the Gotham Awards, it looked bleak for the outcome for these films. However, The National Board of Review for Motion Pictures (NBR) recently released its award winners and one thing is clear, the book to movie adaptations are taking over.

Martin Scorsese’s film, Hugo won the top prize of “Best Film” and Scorsese won the group award “Best Director”. Hugo also is the first time since the MPAA rating system was introduced that a PG family film won the top prize of the night.

Alexander Payne and his remake, The Descendants, were an Oscar favorite, till it didn’t win any of its predicted scores at Gotham. NBR, on the other hand awarded the film “Best Actor” to George Clooney, and “Best Supporting Actress” to Shailene Woodley.

Another book to movie adaptation that was recognized was We Need To Talk About Kevin. Actress Tilda Swinton was acknowledged for her performance in the film.
