A Japanese trailer for the upcoming adaptation, John Carter, was recently released.
The new project, which is based on the book of the same name by Edgar Rice Burroughs, is being directed by Andrew Stanton and will be starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Hayden Church and Willem Dafoe.
The film and novel tell the story of a former military captain John Carter (Kitsch), who is transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.
The film is largely based on the novel, A Princess of Mars, the first novel to feature John Carter. The book was originally published as a magazine serial in 1912 and then brought out in book form in 1917.
Even though this is going to be a Disney film, it still, I think, has potential to be awesome.
