Maleficent Moves Forward With New Director

Snow White and the Huntsman and Mirror Mirror won’t be the only live-action remakes of classic disney animated features. Walt Disney pictures has finally found a director for their new film, Maleficent.

Maleficent is going to be a new live-action version of the animated tale, Sleeping Beauty which is in turn based on the original fairy tale.

The project originally had Tim Burton attached as the director but he later dropped out. Recently, the Walt Disney Pictures project gained Robert Stromberg as its new director.

Stromberg has many high-profile movies under his belt. He was the production designer on Avatar, Alice in Wonderland, as well as working on the upcoming film, Oz the Great and Powerful.

He has also worked as the visual effects supervisor for the hit show, “Boardwalk Empire” and “The Specific”.

Stromberg has won Oscars for Art Direction on Avatar and Alice in Wonderland as well as nominated for the visual effects on the film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.

Maleficent is currently being developed as a film with the starring role created for Angelina Jolie. This project seems as if it is going to be a darker take on the story considering it going to be told from the point of view of the villain. Maleficent is often viewed as the most powerful and sinister of the Disney Villains.
