Man of Steel Reboot Gets New Cast Member

The new Superman reboot Man of Steel, from Zach Snyder, recently added a new cast member. According to Variety, Richard Schiff, known for his role on “The West Wing” will join the cast as Doctor Hamilton, who is most likely based on the Professor Emil Hamilton from the comic books.

The character of Emil Hamilton first appeared in “The Adventures of Superman” # 424. Hamiliton has been both an enemy and an ally to Superman during various years throughout the series. He is most often a part of S.T.A.R. Labs which is a top-secret government research and development lab.

While he was an ally for many years to the hero, Hamilton had been most recently written as a villain in the comics, and he even formed an alternate identity that called itself, “Ruin”. As Ruin he set out to destroy and yes, “ruin” the life of Clark Kent.

If you have seen “Superman: The Animated Series” then you know that Hamilton was a series regular. The character has even appeared on the popular show, “Smallville”. The character had a different incarnation as well as Dr. Steven Hamilton who is believed to have been inspired by the same original character.

The new reboot is about to start filming, and the cast also includes Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix and Laurence Fishburne.

It is currently aiming for a June 14th 2013 release.
