The first official teaser poster for the second installment in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy known as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has been revealed. It shows Bilbo, played by Martin Freeman, as he is about to enter the Lonely Mountain where the dragon Smaug lives and guards the Dwarven treasure.
The second film picks up right where the first left off as Bilbo Baggins journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
As if I needed more of a reason to love Benedict Cumberbatch, he voices the villainous dragon Smaug and The Necromancer. The main cast from the first film will also reprise their roles. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will also see new cast members alongside Cumberbatch such as Evangeline Lilly and Luke Evans.
This film will also be presented in the high frame rate of 48 frames per second (fps) while also be offered in the 24 fps that viewers are accustomed.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theaters on (the what feels like very very VERY far away date of)December 13 with the final chapter, The Hobbit: There and Back Again arriving December 17, 2014. You can also watch the new trailer below:
