Mark Romanek to Helm The Overlook Hotel, a Prequel to The Shining

the_shining.sized

The prequel to “The Shining” has gotten a new director. The Overlook Hotel will be helmed by Mark Romanek according to a report from Variety.

The film is described as an origin story of the infamous hotel where The Shining took place. We will see the Overlook Hotel “through the eyes of its first owner, Bob T. Watson. A robber baron at the turn of the 20th century, Watson scaled the remote peaks of the Colorado Rockies to build the grandest resort in America, and a place he and his family would also call home.”

The prequel was first announced in 2012 but then it got pushed to the back burner. The initial writer and producer Laeta Kaldridis and her partners Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt are still working on the project. Former showrunner of “The Walking Dead” Glen Mazzara wrote the original script and is also involved.

There is no word yet on when production will begin or anticipated release date. However, if The Overlook Hotel actually continues it will likely be released sometime in 2016.

Japanese Horror Film “Audition” Getting Remade in America

audition-poster

Kiri-Kiri-Kiri! Audition is getting a reboot for American audiences according to Deadline. The famous film from Takashi Miike was actually based on the 1997 novel by Ryu Murakami of the same name.

In the American retelling, an unlucky widower — named Sam Davis in this version — lives alone with his son when a filmmaker friend tricks him into meeting women under the guise of a movie audition (because nothing says long-lasting love like trickery). Through the auditions, Sam meets Evie Lawrence, a former ballerina with a mysterious dark side. And a mysterious bag.

According to Deadline, what is known about the American remake, it is very close to the Japanese original. The original film has landed on several prominent directors, authors, and actors lists of best horror films for its disturbing content and grisly portrayal the main character’s enjoyment of torture. Will there be severed limbs? We already know the weird burlap bag will be involved somehow so that is promising.

Richard Gray has adapted the script and will be directed the remake. There is no word on when the film will go into production or who the studio is eyeing for the lead roles.

Seth Rogen Begins Work on “Preacher” Adaptation

“Preacher” is finally moving into production at AMC. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have begun to map out what the pilot episode of the series adaptation will look like.

Recently, Rogen tweeted an image referencing what they have planned for the pilot episode. You can see the tweet below.

preacher pilot

The series is based on the comic series by Garth Ennis and Steven Dillon. Fans were a bit worried about whether the series would stay true to the comic book series when AMC released an official synopsis of the show version as you can see below:

Preacher follows Reverend Jesse Custer, a tough Texas preacher who has lost his faith, has learned that God has left Heaven and abandoned His responsibilities. He finds himself the only person capable of tracking God down, demanding answers, and making Him answer for His dereliction of duty. Accompanying Jesse on his journey is his former girlfriend and a friendly vampire who seems to prefer a pint in the pub to the blood of the innocent. On his tail is one of the most iconic bad guys in print – an immortal, unstoppable killing machine named the Saint of Killers – a western lone gunman archetype whose sole purpose is to hunt and kill Jesse.

But, as you can see from the board in Rogen’s pic, the pilot episode is starting out with Genesis right there at the beginning.
