LEGO The Hobbit Videogame Officially Announced for 2014

legohobbitgame2Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games and The LEGO Group have officially announced the next installment in the LEGO video game franchise. “LEGO The Hobbit” will adapt the legendary tale from the book by J.R.R. Tolkien and Oscar-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit Trilogy.”

The game will be based on the first two films of “The Hobbit Trilogy,” The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and the upcoming The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug, a production of New Line Cinema and MGM, opening worldwide beginning December 13, 2013. Following the storyline of the first two films, “LEGO The Hobbit” will take players on quests throughout Middle-earth, joining Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf the Grey, and Thorin Oakenshield and Company in their exciting adventures toward the Dwarven Kingdom of Erebor.

Players will be able to take on the form of their favorite Hobbit characters, including Bilbo, Gandalf, and all of the Dwarves: Thorin, Fíli, Kíli, Óin, Glóin, Dwalin, Balin Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Dori, Nori and Ori. Each has his own special – and quite hilarious – ability: For instance, Bombur can be used as a trampoline that enables his companions “belly-bounce” out of danger! Players will visit key locations from the films, including Bag End, Bilbo’s Hobbit-hole in Hobbiton, trek through the treacherous High Pass over The Misty Mountains, and explore the depths of Goblin-town, Mirkwood and Rivendell. Along the way, players will solve countless puzzles, partake in Treasure Quests and battle with Orcs, Trolls and fouler things. They will also be able to mine for gems, discover loot from enemies, and craft powerful magical items or build immense new LEGO structures.

Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games, said,

“We are thrilled to depict the characters and environments of Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth in LEGO form with the ‘LEGO The Hobbit’ video game. Our family-friendly take on these thrilling adventures will have kids and parents playing and laughing together as they build and explore in LEGO Middle-earth.”

“LEGO The Hobbit” will be available in 2014 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation, Vita, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, as well as Windows PC and Mac.

Lego Lord of the Rings Is On Its Way

Warner Bros. has confirmed that it will release a widely expected Lord of the Rings Lego videogame.

Packaging for Lego’s new line of LOTR toys, inspired by the three Peter Jackson movies based on the books, reveals the title is on the way. The news was announced last week and confirmed on the Lego Official Website.

In preparation for the game release, Lego will be releasing a new toy set based on the characters. The toy set based on the characters and upcoming game will be hitting stores Summer 2012.

Toy News predicted that Warner Bros. will officially unveil the new Lego game within the next few weeks, leading up to the E3 video games exhibition, and possibly at the show itself.

The game’s creation conveniently coincides with the upcoming release of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, coming to theaters Dec. 14.

The Lego video game series has done extremely well with hit titles such as the Lego Star Wars series, and Lego Batman. There have been four Lego Star Wars video games: Lego Star Wars: The Video Game (2005) Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (2006) Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (2007) Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (2011). As of February 13, 2009, Lego Star Wars: The Video Game has sold over 6.7 million copies worldwide, Lego Star Wars II has sold over 8.2 million, The Complete Saga has sold over 3.4 million, and the three combined have sold over 20 million.

With the game sets, and the film coming out this year, the Lego LOTR video game will most likely do very well commercially. It also seems the Lego video games have a stable fan base that are anticipating this new release.
