The master of action figures, Mr. Todd McFarlane has conquered the likenesses of comic book and anime characters, but he’s also the king of the horror action figure. To prove he’s worthy of that crown, the toy designer has been hard at work on a series of figures inspired by the hit AMC network offering, The Walking Dead.
In fact, collectors have plenty to look forward to when it comes to making their purchases of miniature tributes to the ultimate zombie series. McFarlane has not yet released his line of Walking Dead, Series 2 figures for purchase, but we can assume they’ll be available soon. Do you know why? It’s evident by today’s headline. There’s already a Walking Dead, Series 3 line of action figures. You can take a look at the awesomeness right now.
Talk about attention to detail! When I first saw the Michonne figure, I thought it was a photograph. I was ready to compare the photo of the character to the McFarlane toy. If you look closely; however, you can see where her arms and legs are moveable at the creases. The jeans, as well as Michonne’s hair, reveal incredible realism. Check out the dirt on her shoes, too. The Katana wielding former lawyer will be acted by Danai Gurira in The Walking Dead‘s upcoming third season.
These actions figures will be released in March of 2013. Though season three returns to the airwaves on October 14th, fans will only be able to devour the first 8 episodes at that time. It’ll be around the time these toys are on the market that the second wave of 8 episodes will hit.
Another character in McFarlane’s batch is the Merle Dixon figure, but you didn’t think the master of horror would stick to human subjects, did you? Not for the weak of stomach are “the Autopsy Zombie” figure, and both of Michonne’s “pet” zombies. She’s so hardcore. If you are a fan of the original Image comic book series from which the show was inspired, you’ll even find variations Michonne and her “pets” in black and white. We hear the MSRP on each figure will be $14.99. You can pre-order yours today by visiting bigbadtoystore.com. They come in singles as well as in sets.
If keeping zombies in your home isn’t quite your style, but you still just can’t get enough of the zombiepocalypse and all the Walkers it brings, don’t forge to check out the web series the show and comics have inspired. It’s called Cold Storage.

It was confirmed yesterday that comic book heroes Batman and Superman will both appear in the upcoming Warner Bros film LEGO: The Piece of Resistance, according to Variety.
This news comes just days after the highly anticipated release of Lego Batman 2, which features Superman and several other DC Comics heroes. Channing Tatum and Will Arnett are rumored to be up for the roles of Superman and Batman respectively.
Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation) will voice the lead character in the movie, Emmet, an ordinary, law-abiding, Lego mini-figure, who is mistaken for the most extraordinary MasterBuilder, is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together. However, there is no confirmation on Batman and Superman’s roles in the movie.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the team behind Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs will work with Robot Chicken’s Chris McKay as co-directors, with Lord and Miller also taking on screenwriting duties.
The movie will be an action/adventure movie, but also a comedy, explaining how Gob Bluth actor could end up portraying The Dark Knight.
In March 2012, Lord and Miller revealed the film’s storyline, saying: “It involves many worlds. Basically, the least qualified Lego characters in the universe having to keep the world from being frozen together.”
The project has been in development for three years and is set to hit theaters February 28, 2014.
Fans of the comic book series know that Michonne is probably one of the most badass characters in the series and most of us can’t wait to see her in the AMC television series. Until then, we have a new action figure of the character that has been released. The figure comes from McFarlane Toys and is a limited edition collectible called Bloody Michonne.
The six inch figure will be selling for $25 and is fully accessorized along with 22 points of articulation. The packaging will feature new art by Charlie Adlard. It also comes with a bloody version of Michonne’s katana sword along with various implements such as her hammer, pliers, and power drill.

Warner Bros. has confirmed that it will release a widely expected Lord of the Rings Lego videogame.
Packaging for Lego’s new line of LOTR toys, inspired by the three Peter Jackson movies based on the books, reveals the title is on the way. The news was announced last week and confirmed on the Lego Official Website.
In preparation for the game release, Lego will be releasing a new toy set based on the characters. The toy set based on the characters and upcoming game will be hitting stores Summer 2012.
Toy News predicted that Warner Bros. will officially unveil the new Lego game within the next few weeks, leading up to the E3 video games exhibition, and possibly at the show itself.
The game’s creation conveniently coincides with the upcoming release of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, coming to theaters Dec. 14.
The Lego video game series has done extremely well with hit titles such as the Lego Star Wars series, and Lego Batman. There have been four Lego Star Wars video games: Lego Star Wars: The Video Game (2005) Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (2006) Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (2007) Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (2011). As of February 13, 2009, Lego Star Wars: The Video Game has sold over 6.7 million copies worldwide, Lego Star Wars II has sold over 8.2 million, The Complete Saga has sold over 3.4 million, and the three combined have sold over 20 million.
With the game sets, and the film coming out this year, the Lego LOTR video game will most likely do very well commercially. It also seems the Lego video games have a stable fan base that are anticipating this new release.
The Pirates! Band of Misfits is the new upcoming 3-D stop motion animated film that will be hitting theaters later this month. The film, based on the first two books from Gideon Defoe’s The Pirates! series, now has a new story time app that children will love to read before and after seeing the movie.
iStoryTime is launching the The Pirates! Band of Misfits storybook app for Apple Devices for an introductory price of only $.99 cents. It will got back up to #3.99 soon, so get it while you can at the great introductory offer.
The app includes several fun opportunities along with storybook itself. One feature, called “Piratize Yourself” will allow your children to utilize the face tracking features of iOS 5 to make themselves look like a pirate in real time, snap a photo and share with their friends. They can also become “Pirate of the Year!” by collection the eight hidden prop items they need through out the app.
The story follows the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain – a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side, and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz to the much coveted “Pirate Of The Year Award.”
This is a great app to encourage children to read. Parents can either read the lovable story with their children or allow them to forage the high seas alone with the “read to myself” function.
The Pirates! Band of Misfits storybook app will be released for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
Remember it is only going to be $.99 cents for a short time before it returns to its regular price of $3.99 so get it now and just in time before the film hits theaters.
A few weeks ago toy maker and mega company, Mattel announced they were turning The Hunger Games into Barbies. Specifically, the heroine of the tale, Katniss Everdeen. And now we have a first look of what they Barbie doll looks like. The doll does not show Katniss wearing her reaping dress, or the dress that is on fire, but a more natural look for the character: her arena wear complete with a miniature mockingjay pin, bow and arrow, forest-tromping boots, and that one, plump braid.
The doll’s designer, Bill Greening said,
I chose to dress her in the outfit she wears during the games, since this is where all the non-stop action takes place and is instantly recognizable by fans. Of course, she wears her mockingjay pin proudly on her lapel.”
“Hopefully Hunger Games fans can appreciate the attention to detail. The doll’s minimalistic style and details — such as her loosely braided hair and makeup-free look — also really embody the heroic character Katniss.”
He claims it is a make-up free look, but she sure does look polished to me. Aside from that, I do agree that they did a good job bringing the look from the movie to the doll.
Greening also mentioned that he was a huge fan of the book and the film allowing him to pay tribute to Katniss and the novels.
“I am a huge Hunger Games fan and loved all three books, so it was truly an amazing experience for me to be able to design the Katniss Barbie doll,” Greening says. “I think it really pays tribute to Katniss and The Hunger Games.”
The Hunger Games Katniss Barbie will be available everywhere in August and for pre-order starting today at 12 p.m. ET at BarbieCollector.com and various other online retail outlets.
The truly awesome thing about films shooting on-location is the ninja-like camera owners that go the extra mile to deliver the goodies, and the newest pics and videos of The Dark Knight Rising filming in New York City have some real goodies in store. Unfortunately, the clips could provide some spoilery details so you might not want to proceed if you want to be surprised.
