The Joe Wright directed “Peter Pan” film adaptation has finally released its first trailer. Pan is an origin story to the classic tale and it stars Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund, Rooney Mara, Amanda Seyfried, and Levi Miller.
The trailer shows Jackman as Blackbeard and Mara as Tiger Lily (despite not being Native American in the least). Hedlund plays a younger version of Captain Hook. Newcomer Levi Miller will play the titular character of Peter Pan.
Pan will hit theaters on July 17, 2015. You can watch the new trailer below:
The character of Peter Pan was created by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie. Peter Pan is a mischievous boy who can fly and never grows up. He spends his never-ending childhood adventuring on the small island of Neverland as the leader of his gang, the Lost Boys, interacting with mermaids, Native Americans, fairies, pirates, and occasionally ordinary children from the world outside of Neverland.
Joe Wright’s Pan has added one more cast member. Rooney Mara has been cast in the role of Tiger Lily according to a report from Variety. She joins already cast actors, Garrett Hedlund and Hugh Jackman.
J.M. Barrie’s iconic character Peter Pan gets a new story in Pan as the story takes place during World War II and follows young Peter, an orphan, who is kidnapped by pirates and taken away to Neverland.
Tiger Lily, in the original book, is princess of a tribe of Native Americans living in Neverland. In many adaptations, she serves as a love interest for Peter.
Wright is directing from a screenplay by Jason Fuchs. Greg Berlanti and Paul Webster are serving as producers. The film is set for a worldwide release on July 17, 2015, opening opposite Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man.
Joe Wright’s upcoming Peter Pan original tale has begun casting. Hugh Jackman is currently being eyed to play the lead villain role, the pirate Blackbeard.
The original story, known as Pan, is based on the screenplay by Jason Fuchs and is produced by Greg Berlanti. The story will serve as an origin story about an orphan taken into the world of Neverland where he becomes a hero to the natives by leading a revolt against the pirates who terrorize them. While Blackbeard would be the antagonist, Hook would still appear in the film as Pan’s ally before turning bad. (Reportedly, Ryan Gosling has already passed on the role of Hook.)
According to a report from Variety, the studio was initially looking to Javier Bardem to play the villainous pirate however he ended up passing on the role.
The studio has also begun an open casting to find a young new actor to play the title role as well as looking for an actress to play his love interest Tiger Lily.
Pan is already scheduled for a release date of June 26, 2015.
Remember the fun-filled adventure of Peter Pan, the boy who would never grow up, and Captain Hook, the evil pirate that was in constant pursuit? Well, forget about all that, because you’ll be rooting for Hook in this twisted version of the fairy tale, and former General Zod, Terence Stamp, is coming along for the ride.
