Jamie Foxx Could Potentially Play Electro in Amazing Spider-Man Sequel

Jamie Foxx recently confirmed to Access Hollywood that his casting in the upcoming sequel was “in the works.” He also commented that his daughter would be overjoyed if he landed the badass role of  voltage-wielding villain.

The character of Electro would be the main villain of the sequel. An enemy who gained the ability to control electricity after being struck by lightning while working on a power line. Electro has been depicted more than several times throughout the  Spider-Man cartoons and video games. IGN also ranked the character in 2009 as IGN‘s 87th Greatest Comic Book Villain of All Time.

Jamie told Access at the GQ Men of the Year 2012 party in Los Angeles this week, when asked about his potential involvement in the Marc Webb-directed project,

“I have a little daughter, 4 years old, and what’s crazy is like, this past year she had a birthday where Spider-Man was the theme. Fingers crossed [that] it all works out.”

Earlier this month, Jamie took to Twitter to hint at the possible casting news.

“Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night,” he Tweeted on November 1. “Costume fits well.”

The script is set to be written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man was announced by the studio quickly after the first film’s release. It was later announced that Shailene Woodley was offered the role of Mary Jane Watson.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 sequel will swing into theaters on May 2, 2014.

Shailene Woodley

Shailene Woodley Up for MJ Role in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’

Shailene Woodley

Ready for more Shailene? I am. And it looks like Spider-Man may also be ready for his dose. Young actress, Shailene Woodley is making news this week because she’s up for one big comic book movie role. You didn’t think Mary Jane Watson could go without entering Peter Parker’s life forever, did you? Well, she’ll be introduced to the young hero in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Woodley has been offered the role.

Watch your back Gwen Stacy, MJ is returning to the big screen! Of course Mary Jane is well-known as the Lois Lane to the world’s most beloved wall-crawler. Then again, these days Superman is dating Wonder Woman. So, in the Spider-Man reboot, Spidey, acted by Andrew Garfield, found his love interest in Gwen Stacy, a blond also often featured in the comics. She’s acted by wonder kid, Emma Stone.

Believe it or not, audiences best know Emma Stone as a red-head, but she’s a natural blond. She dyed her tresses red to turn more heads in Hollywood and it worked. So, when she was first cast in The Amazing Spider-Man, folks assumed she was playing Mary Jane Watson, another famous redhead. Then, Stone went dramatically blond. No one would have guessed it was a return to the familiar for the young star.

I think Shailene will look super in red. I also think this was an amazing casting decision. If a young lady is going to give Emma Stone a run for her money on the big screen, I think Shailene has the chops to do it! I can already hear her calling Peter Parker “Tiger”. Insert growling sounds here.

I know Woodley best from her seemingly out-of-no-where awesome performance in The Descendants. Directed by Alexander Payne, The Descendants should have been just another family drama, but thanks largely to the script, the locale of Hawaii, and to headliners, George Clooney, and Shailene Woodley, it got Oscar attention, winding up with a nom for Best Film and win for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Woodley is very feisty in the film and quite natural. It was only a matter of time before she got another big deal. Welcome to the world of super heroes, Shailene!

What other surprises are in store for us in The Amazing Spider-Man 2? Pow! Zap! It was announced that the roles Harry Osborn and Electro are also up for grabs!

Of course in the Spider flicks which starred Mr. Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst played Mary Jane Watson and Harry Osborn was acted by James Franco.

Electro sounds like an electrifying choice for villain. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. Spoiler alert. If you did see the first Amazing Spider-Man, which came out this past summer, you saw a mysterious figure, acted by Michael Massee, in the end credits. We can assume that was Electro, yes?

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, real life sweethearts now, are returning for the sequel. there’s a May 2, 2014 release date and Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt are all writing the script.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb Re-Team for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’

The Amazing Spider-Man

Do you think The Amazing Spider-Man was buried beneath The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers? Well, if you’re a fan of Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of America’s favorite wall crawler on screen, then you’ll be delighted to learn he’ll be putting on the tights at least one more time. That’s right. There will be an Amazing Spider-Man sequel, and part two has Garfield right back in Marc Webb’s…web.

The appropriately named director, Marc Webb, may just have been born to make these movies. He was behind (500) Days of Summer and the first Amazing Spider-Man film, which introduced Andrew Garfield to playing a super hero. It was released June 30th of 2012 and raked in a worldwide total of $748,974,838. It was the fourth highest-grossing movie of 2012.

President of Columbia Pictures, Doug Belgrad, made the announcement that Garfield and Webb would re-team for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker,” said Belgrad. “We can’t wait to share what we have in store for Peter and Spider-Man with audiences worldwide.”

The new screenplay will be tackled by dynamic duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci with some help from Jeff Pinkner. Work on the script for The Amazing Spider-Mnn 2 will begin with a previous draft, written by James Vanderbilt. If the names Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci seem familiar to you, then you get a gold star. They co-wrote The Island, starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson; as well as Cowboys & Aliens, and worked together on TV’s Alias and Fringe and much more.

Spider-Man 2 will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. That’s not surprising. In fact, you want to see Avi Arad’s name associated with a comic book movie. He produced the previous Tobey Maguire Spider flicks, as well as the Ghost Rider films and more. If there was a Marvel hero in it, Arad was probably involved. The sequel is already scheduled for a release date of May 2, 2014 and will be in 3D format.

The beautiful actress Emma Stone is in discussions to return as Gwen Stacy. Production begins next year.

No comic book movie fan should be surprised by this headline. Comic book story lines make it easy to make sequels. Spider-Man is one hero to which just about anyone can relate. I thought this reboot was a little weird because it dealt quite a bit with Peter Parker’s parents. Critics agreed that Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man was intimate and very human. He brought a lot of the “Aww” factor, as in, “Aww, isn’t he adorable?”

Claudia Puig of USA Today said in her review:

As a new chapter in the superpowered arachnid saga, it stands on its own quite nicely, focusing more on human emotions than on a panoply of special effects. …Where Tobey Maguire in the original Spider-Man trilogy was earnest, Garfield’s Spider-Man is whip-smart and likably cheeky, with an undercurrent of teenage angst. [The film is] as much a coming-of-age story as a crime-fighting action saga.”

The Amazing Spider-Man Planned as Trilogy

Andrew Garfield, Rhys Ifans, The Amazing Spider-Man

In a recent interview with the producers of The Amazing Spider-Man, Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach hinted that the superhero film was set to be a trilogy. The sequel is already in the works, currently being written, but the producers stated that they had planned for the franchise to be at least a trilogy.

Tolmach stated,

“We knew that it was going to be more than one, and at the very least three. We’re going to let this movie tell us what the story is.”

Now it has officially been confirmed via the official  Facebook page that the franchise will definitely be a trilogy. A post on this past Monday said,

“It’s finally here! The Amazing Spider-Man is the first installment in a movie TRILOGY that will explore how our fave hero’s journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents.”

They even made it a point to capitalize “trilogy” just in case you missed it.

Sony has confirmed that the sequel is scheduled to open May 2, 2014. There is no word on whether or not Marc Webb will take the trilogy or like so many other directors before him, will leave before the sequel.

In case you haven’t seen the film yet, the official plot summary:

One of the world’s most popular characters is back on the big screen as a new chapter in the Spider-Man legacy is revealed in “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Focusing on an untold story that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story, the new film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, with Martin Sheen and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay written by James Vanderbilt, based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the film in association with Marvel Entertainment for Columbia Pictures, which will open in theaters everywhere in 3D on July 3, 2012.

“The Amazing Spider-Man” is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

Ender’s Game Producers Also To Write Amazing Spider-Man Sequel

The Amazing Spider-Man won’t hit the silver screen for two more months, but Sony Pictures is already hard at work developing a sequel.  Writing duo Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci, the pair who are currently working on the big screen adaptation of Ender’s Game, have signed on to work on the screenplay to The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The first draft of the screenplay was written by James Vanderbilt, who was also predominantly in charge of the script to The Amazing Spider-Man.

Production is tentatively scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2013, according to Sony Pictures.

Kurtzman and Orci are perhaps best known for their frequent collaborations with J.J. Abrams and Michael Bay. The duo is gaining a reputation for adapting comic books into movie scripts. They also collaborated on the Transformers series, Watchmen and Cowboy and Aliens.

We grew up as huge Spider-Man fans so, to us, the opportunity to work on this film is akin to being handed the Holy Grail,” Kurtzman and Orci said. “We love the direction Sony and the filmmakers are taking the Peter Parker/Spider-Man mythology, and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this legendary franchise.”

Co-producer Matt Tolmach said Kurtzman and Orci have an exciting take on the franchise.

“Alex and Bob have a unique ability to write great characters and spectacular action that makes them pitch perfect for Spider-Man,” Tolmach said.

Co-producer Avi Arad said the two will put their stamp on the franchise.

“They have an innate understanding of what makes Peter Parker not just a superhero, but a hero for all of us,” Arad said.

This year’s film, The Amazing Spider-Man will hit theaters on July 3rd in 3D, 2D, and IMAX. The film stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors.
