The Iceman is a film about the life of real life serial killer, Richard Leonard Kuklinski. He was actually a contract killer for a mob and claimed to have killed over 250 people. (Although when arrested, he was only charged with 5 counts of murder…) The screenplay was based on the book The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer written by Anthony Bruno.
The project recently gained actress, Winona Ryder, and Deadline reports that she will be portraying Kuklinkski’s wife. She will be acting opposite Michael Shannon who plays Kuklinkski and Chris Evans as Robert ‘Mr. Softee’ Pronge. Ariel Vromen is set to direct the film with the screenplay he co-wrote with Morgan Land.
The film will also have Benicio del Toro as Roy DeMeo and Elias Koteas as Dominick Provenzano.
The book was released in 1994 and follows the undercover efforts of agent Dominick Polifrone to take down “The Iceman”.
Here’s the official description for the film:
“The Iceman” is the electrifying true story of Richard Kuklinski (Shannon), a notorious mob contract killer and loving family man. He earned his nickname by freezing the bodies of his victims, disguising the time of death, and throwing police off-track. He was a man who used his tendencies toward violence and detachment from consequence to create an idyllic family life. His family and neighbors believed he was an average businessman, having no idea about his deadly alternate life. Kuklinski killed over one hundred people during his life. He never felt remorse for anything he had done, except hurting his family.
There’s no news yet as to what it’ll be rated, probably due to it’s graphic nature. But my guess is, it’s not going to be PG material.
