Chris Meloni is most known for his performance as Detective Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. But now he is becoming a series regular on the hit HBO show, True Blood.
According to the EW, Meloni will be joining the cast of supernaturals in season 5 as an ancient and very powerful vampire. His character is going to be so powerful, in fact, that he holds the fate and lives of Bill and Eric in his hands.
The show is based on the series of novels, The Southern Vampire Mysteries written by Charlaine Harris. The show and series follow telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse and her life as Vampires “come out of the coffin” and become mainstream people. Her life also fills with supernatural and mystical beings that she never knew existed including her own true nature.
Meloni is no stranger to the world of shows created by Alan Ball, he previously had played as Chris Keller on the gritty drama Oz from 1998 to 2003.
The actor announced earlier this year that he was stepping down from the long-running crime procedural show and there was much speculation as to why.
If we can expect season 5 to be as action packed and anxiety creating as the last season was, then Meloni is going to have one hell of a time. We can only expect the show to wilder and more awesome as they season progress (cause lets face it that’s what has been happening) so adding an actor with an avid fan base like Chris Meloni is only going to draw more viewers.
While there is no word yet on when the series will return, True Blood is expected to premiere around June 2012.
