It was reported last year that the alternative/parody novel, “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” was set to become a film. However, little news had been released since then and it appeared the project was halted. The novel, written by Seth Grahame-Smith, was also responsible for the novel and film adaptation, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Now, Variety is reporting that the film adaptation is back on and actress Lily Collins is attached to play the lead role with Burr Steers directing.
“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” was released in 2009 and is a novelization mashup of the classic Jane Austen novel, “Pride and Prejudice” and modern zombie fiction. Grahame-Smith also credited Austen as a co-author of the semi-reworked novel.
Collins has recently appeared in two other movie adaptations including Tarsem Singh’s Mirror Mirror and the upcoming film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. The director, Steers, is known for previously directing 17 Again and Charlie St. Cloud.
Panorama Media joins Darko Entertainment, Handsomecharlie Films and producer Allison Shearmur for the adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s worldwide best-seller. The script is written by David O. Russell. The film will be produced by Darko Entertainment’s Sean McKittrick, Natalie Portman, Annette Savitch and Shearmur. It will be executive produced by Darko’s Edward H. Hamm Jr., Aleen Keshishian and Panorama’s Marc Butan.
There is no word yet on who else will star in the film or a projected release date.
