Jack Huston Joins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Jack Huston, most known as the endearing and adorable man Richard Harrow in “Boardwalk Empire” has officially joined the cast of the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The film is based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel reimagining of the iconic Jane Austen novel.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies follows the plot of the Austen classic in a timeless tale of a woman’s quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a deadly virus that turns the undead into vicious killers.

Huston will play George Wickham in the film alongside Lily James as Elizabeth Bennett, Bella Heathcote as another Bennett sister and Sam Riley as Mr. Darcy as the rebel with a cause (whose casting I vehemently disagree with by the way.)

The adaptation is being directed by Burr Steers who is most known for his work on the film Igby Goes Down.  It was scripted by Steers and David O. Russell. It will be produced by Natalie Portman, Marc Butan, Sean McKittrick, Brian Oliver, Annette Savitch, Allison Shearmur and Tyler Thompson

Seth Grahame-Smith To Direct Adaptation Of Ray Bradbury’s “Something Wicked This Way Comes”

The classic Ray Bradbury novel, “Something Wicked This Way Comes” is to be adapted into a film. Disney has optioned the film and hired author and screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith to direct.

“Something Wicked This Way Comes” is a fantasy-horror that tells the story of two teenage boys who visit a traveling carnival and meet a man named Mr. Dark, who has a tattoo on him for every person who, in exchange for having their secret fantasies made a reality, are now bound to the carnival.

This will be Grahame-Smith’s first directing job however he has made quite the name for himself in the entertainment world. He is best known as the author behind “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” and another book turned movie, “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.” He also wrote the screenplays for the movie adaptations of both books and the screenplay for the Tim Burton and Johnny Depp film Dark Shadows.

The famous Bradbury novel has previously been made into a movie in 1983. However, the upcoming adaptation is not a remake of the movie but of the novel itself.

Grahame-Smith said,

“I have been so crazy about this book, and it was such a formative title in my life that I actually wrote a piece on NPR about why it is so important for young males to read. It is a classic coming-of-age, father-son story about the transition from childhood to adulthood and how kids can’t wait to be adults and adults romanticize their childhoods. I’m not remaking the movie; I want the haunted atmosphere that makes the book so chilling, and I want to reinstate some of the classic scenes from the book that were missing from the ’83 film.”

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Adaptation Back On With Lily Collins In Lead Role

It was reported last year that the alternative/parody novel, “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” was set to become a film. However, little news had been released since then and it appeared the project was halted. The novel, written by Seth Grahame-Smith, was also responsible for the novel and film adaptation, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Now, Variety is reporting that the film adaptation is back on and actress Lily Collins is attached to play the lead role with Burr Steers directing. Continue reading

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Viral Marketing

So the marketing department has fired off a few viral things of their own for the upcoming film, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I’m sure the 16th president wasn’t much of a social gamer on Facebook, or much into online ciphers with GPS caching scavenger hunts. What was more within his reach however were parcels delivered by the U.S. Postal Service.

Bound in rope and wrapped in really good stock paper, various websites like Coming Soon and Crave Online received packages containing what seems to be a preserved journal from what we can presume at this point is the late former president of the United States. At least that’s what we hope, and that Lincoln doesn’t stalk the night, living in the hollowed out statue of himself. Included with the monogrammed leather bound journal was a photo of Lincoln’s mother, Nancy Todd Lincoln, and a silver bullet USB drive; possibly made with steampunk technology, everything is powered by steam! When I first saw these images, my immediate reaction was to go, “Who’s Al?” and be annoying about it. It’s got to be a good life when marketing peeps send you free swag like that.

On this stylish USB drive; manufactured in the past but popularized in the coming future where everyone will want one; contains a featurette for the upcoming movie. So it’s a trailer with interspersed commentary from the production crew.

The one thing that really caught my attention was when director Timur Bekmambetov explains that Lincoln was the Batman of his time. I didn’t think of that until now. It all makes sense. Lincoln has a parent he loved dearly, die before his eyes. Check. Lincoln knows that this is a direct result of underworldly elements that believe themselves to be above the law; and humanity. Check. Goes over the edge with control issues by training himself physically and mentally to be the best. Check. Finds specialists to teach him how to be better at it. Check! Vows to rid the world of anymore suffering due to the element that killed his parent. Check! Iconic costume and trappings that everyone can immediately identify. Stovepipe hat on. Axe sharpened. Double check! The white house even has a secret underground bunker, just like the Bat Cave!

The portion then that annoys me is how Tim Burton, producer of this film can say, “It’s an amazing story. I just felt like it’s something I haven’t seen before.” When in fact he has, having directed The Dark Knight himself.

It all ends with the cute joke, “Are you a Patriot or a Vampire?” encouraging viewers to go to the movie’s official Facebook page.  Which reminds me a lot of “You’re either with us, or against us.” No, not said by a unreasonable bully with psychological problems or control issues, but by a former President of the United States of America.

The featurette actually looked better than the official movie trailer itself. I was actually amped watching this and can’t wait to finish reading the book; half-way through right now.

The film is set for release by Twentieth Century Fox on June 22nd, based on the novel of the same name by Seth Grahame-Smith.

You can go to Coming Soon and look at images of their official Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter propaganda here.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Behind-the-Scenes Featurette

Courtesy of CraveOnline, we now have behind-the-scene featurette for the upcoming film, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Even though the film is not scheduled to hit theaters till June 22nd, there has already been tons of photo stills and two new trailers released for the film.

If you were a fan of the book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (which has also been optioned for a film) then you will love this new project from Seth Grahame-Smith. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is also written by Grahame-Smith and follows our 16th president as he hunts down the undead and has vengeance against them.

The epistolary-style book is written as a biography of Abraham Lincoln, based on “secret diaries” kept by the 16th President and given to the author by a vampire named Henry Sturges.

When Lincoln is eleven years old, he learns from his father Thomas Lincoln that vampires are in fact real. Thomas explains to his son that a vampire killed Abraham’s grandfather (also named Abraham Lincoln) in 1786. Young Abraham is also shocked to learn that his beloved mother Nancy Hanks Lincoln succumbed not to milk sickness but rather to being given a “fool’s dose” of vampire blood, the result of Thomas’s failure to repay a debt. Lincoln vows in his diary to kill as many vampires as he can.

The cast for the upcoming film includes:

  • Benjamin Walker as Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States.
  • Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Mary Todd Lincoln, Lincoln’s wife.
  • Rufus Sewell as Adam, the lead vampire villain.
  • Jimmi Simpson as Josh Speed, Lincoln’s friend and assistant.
  • Dominic Cooper as Henry Sturges, Lincoln’s mentor in vampire hunting.
  • Anthony Mackie as William Johnson, Lincoln’s valet and friend.
