Joss Whedon, the director behind the Avengers films, has confirmed via the Empire Movie Podcast that Tom Hiddleston will not reprise his role as Loki in the upcoming sequel, Marvel’s The Avengers 2.
While news regarding the film is scarce, Whedon did finally give fans an update on what the sequel would entail.
“Immitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, and Loki is not there to say those terrible things.”
How this will effect and play into the events of Thor: The Dark World is unknown at the moment. What we do know from the trailer from that film is that Thor does promise to kill Loki when he betrays him. So where he will be during the events of the Avengers 2 is up for speculation. However, even though Loki will not be in attendance during this world saving romp, new characters Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch have been added to the cast with Aaron Taylor-Johnson in talks to play Quicksilver.
Whedon also spoke about production on the upcoming “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.EL.D.”
“We’re building the next episodes, we start shooting again in July.”
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is set to air this fall on ABC and Marvel’s The Avengers 2 is scheduled for release on May 1, 2015.
