Helen Mirren has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Lasse Hallstrom-directed DreamWorks’ culinary movie The Hundred-Foot Journey. The Oscar-winning actress was cast in one of the two main roles while the second role was filled by relative unknown Manish Dayal.
The Hundred-Foot Journey is the big screen adaptation of the bestselling novel by Steve Knight and is being produced by Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Juliet Blake. The story follows an Indian family who moves to Southern France to open an Indian restaurant across the street from a high profile French restaurant that starts a culinary battle between the two restaurants.
Mirren is about to star in the sequel, Red 2. Dayal is a South Carolina native who has appeared on stage and in various TV shows, being best known for his portrayal of Raj Kher in the CW series “90210” and appearing most recently on the ABC Family show “Switched at Birth.”
Plans are to start production in France and India this September with plans for a U.S. release on August 8, 2014 with Disney distributing in the United States and select territories and DreamWorks’ partner Reliance distributing the film in India. There is no word on a projected release date for the film.
