Spike Lee’s reboot of the South Korean film of the same name is just a few months away and we finally have the first glimpses into the project. Earlier today the first poster for Oldboy was released, which you can see above, as well as couple teaser images featuring the room where our main character will be kept. The teaser images were released via the film’s official Facebook page.
The film follows Joe Doucett (Brolin), an advertising executive is kidnapped and held prisoner for twenty years in solitary confinement. After he is suddenly released, he goes on a mission to find the person responsible for his imprisonment, later discovering that his life is still caught in conspiracy and torment.
It stars Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley. Lee directed the picture with a script from Mark Protosevich.
Some members of the press were given the chance to see a rough cut of the film that was over 2 hours long. Early reception was positive. There has been little revealed in regards to how close of a remake the film will be and whether it will include some of the more controversial elements of the original manga and 2003 film.
Both of the Oldboy films are loosely based on the Japanese manga of the same name written by Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya.
Oldboy will hit theaters on October 25th and the first trailer will be revealed this upcoming Wednesday. You can see the photos below:
