Julie Delpy to Script HBO Films’ Cancer Vixen

Julie Delpy, also known as the adorably talented actress and director who I wish would script my life, has officially signed on to provide the screenplay for the upcoming film from HBO Films. The project is entitled, Cancer Vixen is based on the 2006 graphic novel written by Marisa Acocella Marchetto.

The official synopsis of the graphic novel is as follows:

“‘What happens when a shoe-crazy, lipstick-obsessed, wine-swilling, pasta-slurping, fashion-fanatic, about-to-get-married big-city girl cartoonist with a fabulous life finds a lump in her breast? That’s the question that sets this powerful, funny, and poignant graphic memoir in motion. In vivid color and with a taboo-breaking sense of humor, Marisa Acocella Marchetto tells the story of her eleven-month, ultimately triumphant bout with breast cancer—from diagnosis to cure, and every challenging step in between.

Delp will serve as screenwriter alongside long time collaborator Ethan Hawke and Richard Linklater. She is most known for her work on the films Before Midnight and Before Sunset. She also has directed two films called, 2 Days in Paris and 2 Days in New York which have received wide acclaim.

Cate Blanchett is set to star in the film as well as serve as executive producer. There is no word yet on when production will begin or what other talent is attached.
