Marvel’s The Punisher is continuing to gain steam. The production is moving forward in New York City and last week Marvel Entertainment has announced the addition of five more to the show’s cast!
New additions to the highly anticipated spin off series include Daniel Webber (“11.22.63”) as Lewis Walcott, a young veteran who has had a difficult time re-assimilating into Civilian Society; Jason R. Moore (A Lonely Place for Dying) as Curtis Hoyle, a friend of Frank Castle’s and one of the few people who knows he is alive; Paul Schulze (“Nurse Jackie”) as Rawlins, a high-ranking member of the CIA whose operations in Afghanistan intersect with Frank Castle; Jaime Ray Newman (“Bates Motel”) plays Sarah Lieberman, Micro’s wife whose marriage has made her life far more complicated; and Michael Nathanson (Wolf of Wall Street) as Sam Stein, a Homeland agent who is challenged by his partnership with Dinah.
If you are a fan of the comics you might recognize some of those names. Two of the a five, Curtis Hoyle and Rawlins, are from the actual Punisher comics from Marvel with the other three being new creations for the series.
Jon Bernthal is set to reprise his role as Frank Castle from Marvel’s Daredevil where he gave one of the best performances of any Marvel series . He will be joined by newcomers Ben Barnes as Billy Russo (the civilian name of the villain Jigsaw), Frank’s Castle’s best friend from his days in the Special Forces who runs a successful private military corporation called “Anvil;” Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Micro, a former NSA analyst whose secrets may be of great value to Frank Castle and everyone around them; and Amber Rose Revah (Indian Summers, Son of God) as Dinah Madani; a highly-trained sophisticated Homeland Security agent who is vexed by the Punisher.
Executive Producer and showrunner Steve Lightfoot commented on the new casting saying,
“We couldn’t have asked for a more talented group of actors to round out the cast of Marvel’s The Punisher. It’s a thrill to watch them each bring their characters to life with such layered, nuanced performances.”
Executive Producer Jeph Loeb added,
“Marvel TV is very proud of the cast of The Punisher. Each actors brings a special promise who surround Jon Bernthal’s exceptional performance.”
The Punisher first appeared in the MCU in the second season of “Marvel’s Daredevil” on Netflix. This series is part of an overall deal between Marvel Television and Netflix, which has already released the critically-acclaimed seasons of Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones and Marvel’s Luke Cage, with Marvel’s Iron Fist coming on March 17, 2017. The heroes of these series will unite in the mini-series event Marvel’s The Defenders.
Executive produced by Steve Lightfoot, The Punisher spin-off series will premiere in 2017.
