GameOfThrones_20110412171451

During a Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour today, HBO officially announced today that have in fact renewed “Game of Thrones” and gave fans what they actually wanted to hear: a premiere date. Season five of  the series will debut on Sunday, April 12th at 9:00pm ET/PT. Season 5 will have ten episodes as has been the case with previous seasons.

It was recently announced that an exclusive season 5 trailer will debut in IMAX theaters as they screen Season 4’s final two episodes.

Game of Thrones is Coming to IMAX

For some reason that I am sure HBO thought was warranted, the network has announced that the popular series will be heading to IMAX theaters later this month. Sort of.  Theaters will show the final two episodes of season four and an exclusive trailer for season five.

This is the first time in history that a television show will be shown like this in IMAX. If you choose to experience it, you can relive the Battle of Castle Black as well as the Emmy-nominated season four finale, “The Children.”

Greg Foster, senior executive vice president of IMAX Corp says,

“The scope and production quality of the show is quite remarkable, which will be highlighted even further in select IMAX locations—allowing fans, as never before, to become a part of author George R. R. Martin’s world that [showrunners] David Benioff and D. B. Weiss created for HBO. It has the action, storyline and epic nature that our fans seek in IMAX and we’re thrilled to team with HBO and our longtime partners at Warner Brothers to offer audiences a chance to experience it in the ultimate theater setting joined by other fans of the series.”

The IMAX showings will run in 150 theaters for one week beginning Jan. 23. We currently have no premiere date for season five of “Game of Thrones” but typically it has premiered either the last week of March or the first week of April.

Tom Hanks Eyeing Adaptation of “The Circle”

the-circle

According to report from Deadline, the novel “The Circle,” written by Dave Eggers, is getting a major film adaptation. Further it appears that actor Tom Hanks is attached to produce the project and possibly star in it as well.

The Circle is a sinister look at the tech world, following a woman who forgoes her private life to work at an Internet monopoly called the Circle, which creates one online identity for all users and results in the world’s most powerful online force. It touches on the dangers of living in an increasingly digital age—reminiscent of some recent headlines, isn’t it?

The script for The Circle has been penned by James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now) and has signed on to direct as well. According to the report, if the deal between the studio and the financier is approved than Hanks and Gary Goetzman, his producing partner, will be official producers on the project.

Hanks previously starred in another Eggers novel turned film in A Hologram For the King.

There is no word on when production may begin for the project or any other actors the studio may be eyeing for lead roles.

Legendary Pictures has officially optioned the upcoming novel from Andrew Pyper that is scheduled to release by Simon & Schuster in February 2015. The novel, “The Damned,” is described as similer to those supernatural thrillers “The Sixth Sense” and “Jacob’s Ladder.”

The book is described as follows:

From the #1 internationally bestselling author of The Demonologist, called “smart, thrilling, utterly unnerving” by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn, comes a spine-tingling supernatural thriller about a survivor of a near-death experience haunted by his beautiful, vindictive twin sister.

Most people who have a near-death experience come back alone…

After he survived a fire that claimed the life of his twin sister, Ashleigh, Danny Orchard wrote a bestselling memoir about going to Heaven and back. But despite the resulting fame and fortune, he’s never been able to enjoy his second chance at life.

Ash won’t let him.

In life, Danny’s charming and magnetic twin had been a budding psychopath who privately terrorized her family—and death hasn’t changed her wicked ways. Ash has haunted Danny for twenty years and now, just when he’s met the love of his life and has a chance at real happiness, she wants more than ever to punish him for being alive—so she sets her sights on Danny’s new wife and stepson. Danny knows what Ash really wants is him, and he’s prepared to sacrifice himself in order to save the ones he loves. But to do this, he’ll have to meet his sister where she now resides—and hope that this time, he can keep her there forever.

Pyper is no stranger to the film adaptation area. His previous novel, “The Demonologist,” is currently in the development stage at Universal Pictures and Imagemovers as it is being made into a film.

There is to word when the project will begin development or the anticipated release date. Alex Hedlund and Tracy Stevens from Legendary will be overseeing the project.
