Nicolas Cage Joins Cast for “Pay the Ghost”

The popular short story from Tim Lebbon titled “Pay the Ghost” was recently optioned for the big screen. Now according to a report from Variety, Nicolas Cage is currently attached to star in the supernatural thriller.

“Pay the Ghost” kicks off on Halloween night, when a couple’s young son is mysteriously abducted. A year later, they begin to sense his presence in frightening ways. A string of terrifying clues draws them to search for the boy throughout New York, where they uncover ancient secrets and discover a vicious, vengeful spirit.

The short story was initially published in the collection, “October Dreams.” It was optioned by Midnight Kitchen Productions.

Currently the project is without a director though Dan Kay is set to write the script.

Dave Franco to Star in “Intern’s Handbook” Film Adaptation

Sony Pictures recently acquired the film rights to the book, “The Intern’s Handbook: A Thriller.” Then they secured Dave Franco as the star of the project. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Shane Kuhn.

The Intern’s Handbook” follows s a company called HR, Inc., an intern placement agency that is actually a front for a network of assassins whose targets are high-profile corporate executives. The best of the best in this world is John Lago, who can get coffee and make copies like no one else while stealthily ratcheting up a body count.

The story tells of Lago’s stint in a Manhattan law firm, where he’s working as a temp while gathering intelligence for his hit. He then meets his toughest adversary yet: a female FBI agent assigned to take down the same target.

The novel was released in April of this year and is the first in a planned trilogy.

The script for the adaptation will be written by Oren Uziel. Neal Mortiz and Ori Marmur of Original Film will produce along with Circle of Confusion’s Brad Mendelsohn and David Alpert.

Adaptation of Stephen King’s IT Shifts from Warner Bros. to New Line

According to a story from The Hollywood Reporter, a new upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s “IT” has shifted from Warner Bros. to their New Line division.

Cary Fukunaga, who you might recognize from “True Detective,” was hired to be the director for IT back in 2012 and word is that he is still attached. The studio is reportedly looking to release the film into two separate feature-length films. Part one would focus on the characters as children while part two would feature them as adults.

“IT” was previously and pretty famously adapted into television miniseries in 1990.

The story is officially described as follows:

A promise made twenty-eight years ago calls seven adults to reunite in Derry, Maine, where as teenagers they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Unsure that their Losers Club had vanquished the creature all those years ago, the seven had vowed to return to Derry if IT should ever reappear. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that summer return as they prepare to do battle with the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers once more.

Fukunaga himself will also attend to scripting duties alongside Chase Palmer with David Katzenberg, Roy Lee, Dan Lin and Seth Grahame-Smith producing.

Noomi Rapace to Star Opposite Will Smith in “Brilliance” Adaptation

Noomi Rapace is reportedly in negotiations to join Will Smith in the film adaptation of the novel “Brilliance.” The film is based on the novel by Marcus Sakey and is being adapted by Legendary Entertainment.

The book takes place in a world where a minority set of people are born with extraordinary abilities and are called “brilliants.” A panic sets in among the human majority, bringing the world to a civil war, which is exactly what a nefarious faction wants.

Smith is playing a federal agent, a brilliant with great hunting gifts who is drafted to hunt down a terrorist, another such brilliant who intends to start the civil war.

Rapace will play a tattooed and pierced brilliant that is identified as a terrorist by the government.

Brilliance is being directed by Julius Onah with a script from David Koepp. The produces will be Joe Roth, Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni.

Universal will release the feature project, which is aiming for a summer start.

Warner Bros. Picks Up Supernatural YA Novel “Invisibility”

The supernatural romance YA novel, “Invisibility,” is heading to the big screen. The novel by David Leviathan and Andrea Cremer was acquired for film by Warner Bros. The book was published in May 2013 by Philomel.

With “Invisibility,” the two team up to tell the tale of a 16-year-old boy who is literally invisible. He then meets and falls for his new neighbor, the one person who can actually see him. The two the set out to discover the truth behind his affliction, uncovering curses and spells along the way.

Leviathan is most known for being the author of Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist while Cremer is the writer behind Nightshade, the popular YA witchcraft book series. 

There is no writer or producer attached. Niija Kuykendall and Cate Adams will oversee the project for the studio.

New Trailer for Adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s “Radio Free Albemuth” Debuts

The film adaptation of the Philip K. Dick novel, “Radio Free Albemuth” has released a new trailer. The project was directed and adapted by John Alan Simon. The book was written in 1976 and posthumously published in 1985.

Radio Free Albemuth stars several well-known actors including Shea Whigham, who plays Eli on Showtime’s Boardwalk Empire, Katheryn Winnick, who stars on History’sVikings, musician/actress Alanis Morissette, Ashley Greene, Jon Tenney and Rich Sommer.

The film is set in an alternate reality in 1985. Berkeley record store clerk Nick Brady (Jonathan Scarfe) begins to experience strange visions transmitted from an extraterrestrial source he calls VALIS. He moves with his family to L.A., where he becomes a successful music executive with a secret mission to overthrow the oppressive government led by U.S. President Fremont (Scott Wilson). With the help of his best friend, sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick (Whigham), and a beautiful, mysterious woman named Silvia (Morissette), Nick finds himself drawn into a conspiracy of mind-shattering proportions.

Radio Free Albemuth is a science fiction thriller that was initially filmed in 2007. It is finally getting a release via Freestyle Releasing and Freestyle Digital Media (FDM), which acquired all DVD/VOD rights.

The film was produced by Dale Rosenbloom, Stephen Nemeth and Elizabeth Karr along with Simon, the project will debut in limited theaters and on all digital platforms June 27.

Batman vs. Superman is Officially Titled Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

After MONTHS of news and updates for the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, we finally have an official name: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We even have an official logo you can see above.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, Ben Affleck as BruceWayne/Batman, and Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from Man of Steel, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film.

The highly anticipated sequel is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, Batman characters created by Bob Kane, and Wonder Woman created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment.

The film is written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S. Goyer and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice releases in theaters on May 6, 2016.

Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For Debuts Five Character Posters

Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For has officially released five new character posters as we inch closer to the film’s release. The film is a sequel to 2005 film titled simply Sin City. The films are based on the comic book series from Miller.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and Miller. The duo reunite to bring the graphic novel to the screen for a second time.

One of the smaller plots of the film is based on the short story “Just Another Saturday Night”, which is collected in Booze, Broads & Bullets, the sixth book in the comic series. Two original stories written by Miller were also created exclusively for the film.

Powers Boothe, Bruce Willis, Eva Green, Dennis Haysbert, Martin Csokas, Jamie Chung, Jamie King, Alexa Vega, Julia Garner, Christopher Meloni, Jeremy Piven, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, Christopher Lloyd, Stacy Keach and Jude Ciccolella also star in the August 22 release.

New Stephen King Movies on the Horizon

Stephen King will be able to add two more film adaptations to his body of work. “Gerald’s Game” and “Mr. Mercedes” are being planned for film projects alongside the recently optioned tale, “Bad Little Kid.”

According to a report from Deadline, Mike Flanagan is planning to helm Gerald’s Game. The screenplay was written by Flanagan along with writing partner Jeff Howard. The novel was published in 1992 and begins with a couple playing a bondage game, but the act turns deadly, leaving one of them handcuffed to the bed and alone.

The novel “Mr. Mercedes” releases on July 3 but the film rights have already been acquired by Temple Hill and Media Rights Capital. According to Shock Till You Drop, Jack Bender is attached to direct while producers are still looking for a writer for the screenplay. The upcoming book revolves around a driver who runs over a crowd of job searchers with a Mercedes, killing 8 and wounding 15 more — yet the wheelman gets away.

Zack Snyder Reveals Batman and the Batmobile

Director Zack Snyder has officially released the first image from the upcoming film Batman vs. Superman! You can see the image of Ben Affleck as Batman alongside his Batmobile above.

Snyder revealed the image with a simple tweet that said,

“I shot this with my @Leica_Camera M Monochrom. #Batman #Batmobile #Gotham”

Batman vs. Superman opens in theaters on May 6, 2016. It stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto and Ray Fisher.

Despite the fact that most fans were upset with the casting of Affleck as Batman, the above image at least looks pretty impressive. Will Affleck do a good job with the role?

The film is the sequel to last year’s Man of Steel.
