“It” Remake Gets Release Date

It_cover

Warner Bros. has officially announced the release date for the upcoming remake of the Stephen King’s It. The Andy Muscetti directed project will hit theaters on September 7, 2017.

It was originally going to be directed and written by the brilliant Carey Fukanaga. However, due to a series of creative disagreements with the studio, he dropped out of the project.

Now, the adaptation will hit theaters thanks to Muscetti along with Gary Doberman reworking the script. There is no word yet whether Will Poulter will remain in the role of Pennywise. Producer Roy Lee recently told Collider that the studio is hoping to begin production this year.

Right now, there is no word on who will star in the roles of the kids and the adults. However, with production beginning this year, more details are expected to release over the next few months.

Stephen King’s Dark Tower series is finally heading to the big screen and the production has added a fantastic new cast member making me feel a little better about the project. Longtime Whedonverse star, Fran Kranz has been cast as Pimli in the Sony adaptation.

Kranz joins Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. The character of Pimli is the antagonist and “right-hand man” to McConaughey’s bad guy, the Man in Black. The Dark Tower fantasy series stars Elba as Roland Deshcain, a wandering knight errant of sorts, and the last hope of the Mid-World. With a pair revolvers and the help of a few friends, Deshcain aims to right things in his fallen realm by way of the Dark Tower, a structure that stands at the nexus point of both time and space. In the process he must battle his nemesis the Man in Black, who too is attempting to reach the Dark Tower to harness its powers.

The Dark Tower will be helmed by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer via production using their Imagine Entertainment banner, while Nikolaj Arcei is set to direct.

CM_jumanji

The Jumanji reboot we didn’t ask for has possibly added two stars you didn’t know you wanted until it was announced. According to a report from Variety, Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart are in VERY early talks to join the cast of the Sony Pictures reboot.

Jumanji the reboot is being directed by Jake Kasdan. It is being described as a new take on the children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. The original movie starring Robin Williams was also based on the children’s book. The reboot is supossed to be more of a reboot of the book rather than the movie.

The book follows a jungle themed board game that comes to life while you play it causing a lot of trouble for young kids you stumble upon it one afternoon.

Johnson and Hart have already teamed up for the upcoming New Line action-comedy Central Intelligence (opening June 17) and they also co-hosted the MTV Movie Awards earlier this month. Hart and Johnson have not been confirmed for the movie yet.

Jumanji is scheduled to open July 28, 2017.

AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead Renewed for Season 3

Fear the Walking Dead Logo

AMC’s pre-walking dead series “Fear the Walking Dead” has already been popular enough to warrant renewal for a third season. While it has just begun the second season, AMC recognizes its potential and fast tracked the renewal.

AMC announced the renewal just days after the second season premiered to an amazing 8.8 million viewers. The show, which follows a new group of survivors struggling through society’s collapse in the midst of a zombie virus outbreak, will return for a 16-episode season three in 2017.  AMC also announced that the series’ Chris Hardwick-hosted after the show called, Talking Dead: Fear, will also be back for another season, continuing to air after each new episode.

In a statement released by the network, Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios, lauded the success of the show, as well as its creators:

What Dave Erickson and Robert Kirkman have invented in Fear The Walking Dead is to be applauded. Watching Los Angeles crumble through the eyes of our characters and seeing each make decisions and try to figure out the rules of their new world – it’s fresh, eerie and compelling and we’re all in for the ride. “As Victor Strand observed, ‘The only way to survive a mad world is to embrace the madness.’ We thank the millions of fans for embracing this mad world and look forward to sailing far into the future.

The show airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.

Fahrenheit 451 Adaptation in the Works at HBO Films

Fahrenheit451Film_Main

One of the best books ever written is getting the film adaptation it deserves from HBO Films. The iconic Ray Bradbury sci-fi classic, Fahrenheit 451, is in development at HBO Films, according to a report from The Wrap99 Homes filmmaker Ramin Bahrani will write, direct and executive produce the project.

Surprisingly this is only the second time that such a famous novel has been adapted for film. Francois Truffaut was the first at adapting Bradbury’s book, bringing his version to screens in 1966.

Fahrenheit 451 is set in a dystopian future where reading is outlawed and firemen, like protagonist Guy Montag, are tasked with burning books. Bradbury’s masterpiece, one of sci-fi’s most acclaimed works, is a chilling story of censorship and a future without reading and books that still resonates decades after its publication.

There is no word yet on when the adaptation may release or when production is expected to begin. No talent has been announced as attached to the project.

Watch a Trailer for Batman: The Killing Joke

batman-the-killing-joke

The Batman graphic novel series, “Batman: The Killing Joke” was one the best ever and we are getting an animated adaptation of the series. Which is interesting considering how dark and uncomfortable and adult that series was.

However, the upcoming adaptation has a pseudo trailer for Batman: The Killing Joke. I say pseudo because it appears as if while the clips are genuine to the upcoming project, the actual trailer is fan-made.

Batman: The Killing Joke is an  origin story for the supervillain the Joker. The graphic novel is a loose adaptation of the 1951 story arc “The Man Behind the Red Hood!” The story takes place over two timelines and depicts the Joker attempting to drive Jim Gordon insane and Batman’s desperate attempt to stop him. The series was created and written by Alan Moore. One of the reasons “The Killing Joke” was so well recieved is that it humanized the Joker into a tragic figure in the Batman universe. He was a family man and failed comedian who suffered “one bad day” that finally drove him insane. However, it is also incredibly dark including the shooting and paralysis of Barbara Gordon (a.k.a. Batgirl), an event that laid the groundwork for her to develop the identity of Oracle, as well as the possible sexual assault of Barbara.

“The Killing Joke”  won the Eisner Award for ‘Best Graphic Album’ in 1989 and appeared on The New York Times Best Seller List in May 2009.

Ava DuVernay Will Direct Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time

A_wrinkle_in_time_digest_2007

The upcoming adaptation of “A Wrinkle in Time” officially has its director and it is a fantastic choice. According to reports from Deadline, Ava DuVernay will be tackling the film based on Madeleine L’Engle’s classic fantasy novel.

The novel, which was read by almost everyone in middle school and hopefully every child anyway, follows 13-year-old Meg Murry searching for her father through interdimensional spacetime with a device called the Tesseract.

A Wrinkle in Time the film will have its script written by Frozen writer Jennifer Lee. DuVernay famously directed the critically acclaimed film Selma and recently turned down directing Black PantherShe is also currently working on sci-fi- thriller Intelligent Life and a film on Hurricane Katrina.

There is no word yet on an anticipated release date and the studio has not leaked any actors they are eyeing for the key roles.

Oscar Isaac Joins All-Female Cast of Alex Garland’s Annihilation

oscar-isaac-9999

Oscar Isaac, the man I pretend is my boyfriend when no one is looking will reunite with Ex Machina’s Alex Garland for the director’s upcoming and highly anticipated next science fiction film, Annihilation.

Annihilation follows a biologist, an anthropologist, a psychologist and a surveyor on an expedition that brings them face to face with an unknown force that has physically, emotionally and mentally ravaged the exploration crews that came before them.

The news today that Isaac has joined the cast of the sci-fi film comes after a recent announcement that Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Natalie Portman would be starring as the film’s four main protagonists.

Unlike Ex Machina, Isaac will not be in a main role in the film. Instead he will portray the husband to Portman’s biologist, who joins the aforementioned mission after her husband—a member of the previous team—dies mysteriously.

The movie is based on Jeff VanderMeer’s novel about a team that crosses into uninhabited land known as Area X and is the first entry in Vandermeer’s Southern Reach trilogy.

Currently there is no anticipated release date but it is likely the film will hit theaters sometime in 2017.

Two X-Files YA Novels to be Published, with Scully and Mulder Origin Stories

Scully-and-Mulder-3

Fans of “The X-Files” are getting a continuation of the series in an unexpected avenue. Have you ever wondered how Mulder and Scully became well, Mulder and Scully? In the original series we only get small glimpses into both characters pasts – mostly their childhood – but what happen in the years leading up to their life changing partnerships?

Two young adult novels are striving to answer those questions. The books, Agents of Chaos and Devil’s Advocate, are set in 1979, and will follow teenage Mulder and Scully (separately) as they experience “life-changing events” that define their future belief and skepticism. Mulder will be 17 in Agents of Chaos, while Scully will be just 15 in Devil’s Advocate.

Both books are set for a January 2017 release with Kami Garcia (The Legion) writing the first book, and Jonathan Maberry (Assassin’s Code) the second.

“As a diehard fan of the show, the opportunity to work with incredible authors on original stories about these characters is a dream come true for me,” said Erin Stein of Imprint/Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group. “Why did Mulder become a believer? Why did Scully become a skeptic? We get to tell those stories.”

Meanwhile, X-Files creator Chris Carter has left fans in uncertainty with the end of the rebooted series. There is a possibility for more episodes considering both actors are open to it but there is nothing confirmed.

Julianne Moore In Talks to Star As Kingsman Sequel Villain

comic-con-movie-panel-2014-kingsman-the-secret-service-2014

According to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter, Julianne Moore is currently in talks to play the villain in the upcoming sequel to the 2014 British film Kingsman: The Secret Service.

The film series is based on the graphic novel series of the same name. Right now there are almost no details about the sequel especially considering the graphic novel doesn’t have a sequel. So there is no idea what plot the film will be following. It has been confirmed, however, that the story’s location will jump from London to the United States.

I am officially feeling weary. After the amazing first film, the idea that the second film has no comic book basis, is moving setting, and is heavily influence by the studio, is leading me to believe this won’t hold up the feel. The only redeeming factor is that Matthew Vaughn will return to direct the sequel, while Kingsman’s young star Taron Egerton will also reprise his role.

Kingsman: The Secret Service opened to a surprising $414.4 million worldwide with only an $81 million production budget. Shooting for the sequel will begin this summer.
