Chloe Grace Moretz is set to play Ariel in the upcoming live action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid” according to a report from Variety. The film will be based on the Hans Christian Andersen tale that follows a mermaid who wishes to become human after falling in love with the man she rescued at sea.

The film is set to be written by Richard Curtis with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner producing. Liza Chasin and Amelia Granger will executive produce and Exec VP of Production Erik Baiers and creative executive Chloe Yellin will oversee the project for Universal.

It was originally helmed by the amazing Sofia Coppola before she dropped out earlier this year due to creative differences with the studios.

This film staring Moretz should not be confused with a competing picture staring Rosie Mac whioch is set to be release in 2016. Mac currently works Emilia Clarke’s “Game of Thrones” body double.

Moretz, who can be next seen in the 2016 film The 5th Wave, is currently filming Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. The Seth Rogen comedy in which Moretz could play a potential sorority girl, is set to be released May 20, 2016.

There is currently no potential release date for the Moretz “Little Mermaid” picture or a time frame for production.

The Walking Dead and Talking Dead Get Season Renewals

Walking Dead

Unsurprisingly, AMC has officially renewed “The Walking Dead” for a seventh season along with its companion series “The Talking Dead” for another season.

“We are so proud to share these shows with fans who have been so passionate, communicative and engaged,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios. “We are grateful for and continually impressed by the talent, effort and excellence on continuous display by Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, Chris Hardwick and the many people with whom we partner to make these unique shows possible. The result: More Walking and Talking. Hooray.”

This comes as no surprise consider the shows are one of if not the most popular show whenever it is on the air. In recently released Live+3 numbers, season six episode three of The Walking Dead received 18.2 million total viewers. These numbers show a 39% and 42% increase, respectively, from the Live+SD results. The show is up a tick in both categories compared to last season’s third episode. It’s also up 7% in total viewers and 8% among adults 18-49 from the Live+3 results of episode two of season six. The premiere episodes and finale episodes are also routinely the highest rated shows on cable whenever they air.

Mark Ruffalo in Talks to Bring The Hulk to Thor: Ragnarok

avengers

According to a report from Deadline, Marvel Studios is in the process of wooing Mark Ruffalo to bring the Hulk back in the upcoming film, Thor: Ragnarok. Rumors about the return of Hulk and Ruffalo’s involvement have been churning around the mill for weeks and might possibly be true considering the actor has been listed under the cast list for the film on Imdb.

Thor: Ragnarok, which will be the third installment in the Thor franchise, will see the return of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Jaimie Alexander’s Lady Sif. However, the plot of the film has not been released.

The script for the film will be written by Christopher Yost (Thor: The Dark World), Craig Kyle and Thor comic book writers Jack Kirby, Stan Lee and Larry Lieber. The film will be directed by Taika Waititi (Green Lantern) and produced by Kevin Feige.

Thor: Ragnarok is set to be released Nov. 3, 2017.

Could A Wonder Woman Game Be On The Way?

WonderWoman_6

Wonder Woman is all the rage in the comic world of superhero developments. The character is set to be played by Gal Gadot when making her silver screen debut in next year’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice but will then get a solo film in 2017. Additionally, an article at Tech Times recently confirmed that DC Comics will revamp the character in print, too, with an upcoming new series called “The Legend Of Wonder Woman.” The comics will apparently tell the story of a young Diana Prince (aka the eventual Wonder Woman) growing up as an Amazonian princess before taking on the rest of the world.

This is all a pretty big victory for those who have been calling for more of a female presence in the superhero entertainment industry. Wonder Woman truly is everywhere: in upcoming films, in a new comic strip, in entertainment news headlines, and expected to be flying off the shelves as a popular Halloween costume once again. But one question that has yet to be answered could end up being one of the biggest ones for the ongoing exposure of the character to modern fans: is there going to be a video game as well?

As of now there’s not much talk of such a project, though it’s worth noting that Wonder Woman does already exist in a few modern games. Most notable among these are the popular Injustice games that exist on both console and mobile devices, incorporating a huge selection of DC characters in a brawler/combat style. And Wonder Woman is right there among them. However, the character is also featured at Gala Casino’s games section in a slot machine experience. The game is largely about the slots and involves real money play, but it has a brilliant comic-esque Wonder Woman cover and includes the “Ares bonus game” in which Wonder Woman fends off a plague of zombies. Not bad, at least for invoking some Wonder Woman lore.

But gamers and Wonder Woman enthusiasts alike will be holding their breath for more given the emergence of the character and the lack, currently, of signature DC game series. In fact, with the exceptional “Arkham” series now wrapped up, a Moviepilot editorial went in-depth discussing why Rocksteady (the developers who made the “Arkham” games) should consider partnering with Warner Bros. for a major Wonder Woman franchise. (*Editor’s note: Not to mention this franchise would be pretty lucrative just by attracting the female gaming audience who loved Arkham but yearn for more diversity in main characters, story lines, and who have been begging for  female comic book characters to be the center attraction in well anything.) Some of the specific suggestions are pretty exciting, but the basic idea is that Rocksteady could infuse Wonder Woman games with the same scope, detail, and basic fighting and movement mechanics that so many loved in the “Arkham” series, while creating whole new worlds to do it in. Because Wonder Woman sort of bounces back-and-forth between mythical realms and the DC Universe, such games could make use of everything from Gotham City to Olympus, with fascinating new supporting characters and villains to go with the settings.

At this point it’s still only an idea, but it’s certainly a fascinating one to think about. DC appears to be determined to get the cinematic version of Wonder Woman right, and if she’s as popular with fans as many hope she will be, a major gaming adaptation may be a natural next step.

Ant Man Sequel’s 2018 Release Pushes Captain Marvel to 2019

marvel-studios-logo2

Earlier this month, Marvel announced that Ant-Man would be getting a sequel by way of Ant-Man and the Wasp and it will be hitting theaters in 2018. However, this new addition to Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe means pushing back the Captain Marvel film to 2019.

This is not the first time that Phase 3 has been shifted and it is started to feel like we can’t believe anything in that schedule. The first shift occurred when Sony’s Spider-Man deal with Marvel was announced. That announcement means that Black Panther will move from a July 6, 2018 to a Feb. 16, 2018 release and now Captain Marvel will be released on March 8, 2019 rather than Nov. 2, 2018.

Marvel has also added three untitled films for 2020 on May 1, July 10 and Nov. 6.

Ant-Man and the Wasp will be released July 6, 2018. Ant-Man will next appear in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.

Lionsgate to Adapt Z-Men Graphic Novel Into Film

0825-Z-Men-1-Final

The intense zombie graphic novel, “Z-Men” written by Jeff McComsey is heading to the big screen according to a report from Deadline. “Z-Men” followers government agents who must fight off a zombie outbreak.

The film adaptation will move forward via Lionsgate and comic book publisher Double Take, a subsidiary of video game publisher Take-Two Interactive Software. The partnership was announced earlier this week after Take-Two and Lionsgate announced a couple of months ago that the game publisher’s Borderlands would get a film adaptation.

“We’re delighted to expand our relationship with our friends at Take-Two by partnering with their comic book arm, Double Take, in bringing Z-Men to the big screen,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger in announcing the deal. “We continue to diversify our portfolio with films adapted from novels, video games and board games and look forward to translating 2T’s graphic novel into a spine-chilling film for moviegoers and comic book fans alike.”

There is no word yet on when the film adaptation of “Z-Men” will head into production or who the studio is eyeing for the starring roles. They have also not mentioned an anticipated release date.

“The Walking Dead” Casts Comic Book Character ‘Jesus’

The-Walking-Dead-wallpaper-5

“The Walking Dead” has officially cast an important character to the comic books in the AMC series. According to The Hollywood Report, Tom Payne will play the series character Paul “Jesus” Monroe.

Payne will appear in a recurring role for season six, coming next month, with an option for season seven. In the comics, Jesus comes to Alexandria from the Hilltop Colony, another nearby community. He is an even-tempered, morally sound but combat-capable character who becomes an adviser to Rick. With the casting comes speculation that Jesus’ addition to the show foretells the introduction of the villainous Negan to the show that fans have been dying to see.

Payne has previously appeared in the HBO series “Luck” making quite the name for himself.

The new season of The Walking Dead premieres Oct. 11 on AMC.

Joseph Heller’s Catch-22 Gets a TV Adaptation

catch22

The hilariously insane and on point war satire novel, “Catch-22” by Joseph Heller, will make its way on to the small screen. The novel is being adapted into a mini-series according to a report from The Telegraph.

The World War II satire, which popularized the phrase “catch-22,” is set from 1942 to 1944. It mainly follows the life of Captain John Yossarian, a U.S. Army Air Forces B-25 bombardier. Most of the events in the book occur while the fictional 256th Squadron is based on the island of Pianosa, in the Mediterranean Sea, west of Italy. The novel looks into the experiences of Yossarian and the other airmen in the camp, who attempt to maintain their sanity while fulfilling their service requirements so that they may return home.

It uses a distinctive non-chronological third-person omniscient narration, describing events from the points of view of different characters. The separate storylines are out of sequence so that the timeline develops along with the plot.

The novel’s title refers to a plot device that is repeatedly invoked in the story. Catch-22 starts as a set of paradoxical requirements whereby airmen mentally unfit to fly did not have to, but could not actually be excused. By the end of the novel it is invoked as the explanation for many unreasonable restrictions. According to the novel, people who were crazy were not obliged to fly missions; but anyone who applied to stop flying was showing a rational concern for their safety, and was sane.

The mini-series will be produced by Passenger, the production company behind the HBO series “True Detective.” It will be directed by David Michod and Australian screenwriter Luke Davies will adapt Heller’s book for TV.

“It’s probably the greatest American novel of all time,” True Detective executive producer and head of Passenger production company, Richard Brown, told The Telegraph.

This marks the third time the novel will be adapted for audiences. It was first made into a film in 1970 that starred Alan Arkin as Yossarian alongside Orson Welles, Martin Sheen, Bob Newhart and Art Garfunkel.

“I love the movie. I think it was great but I wish it was six hours long—I think it needs to be to get all the important bits in there… There is too much there to condense into a two-hour film,” Brown told The Telegraph.

Three years after the release of the 1970 film, a TV adaptation of the novel starring Richard Dreyfuss was released. A TV pilot was released but a full series was not produced.

Currently, there is no word on when the miniseries will premiere or who the production company or director is eyeing to star.
