The stories of Philip K. Dick are becoming an 10-part anthology series thanks to Ronald D. Moore and Bryan Cranston (And that alone makes it very exciting.) Channel 4 and Sony Pictures Television announced the news today that they are partnering up to create the drama series based on the short stories written by the science fiction novelist.
The anthology series is titled “Electric Dreams: The World of Philip K. Dick.” The series will be written and executive produced by Moore (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Outlander”) and Michael Dinner (“Justified,” “Masters of Sex”), with Cranston (Trumbo, “Breaking Bad”) both executive producing and appearing in the series.
According to the announcement, each episode will be a standalone drama adapted and contemporised from one of Dick’s short stories. It will air on Channel 4 in the UK and will be distributed internationally by Sony Pictures Television.
Cranston released a statement about the project,
“This is an electric dream come true. We are so thrilled to be able to explore and expand upon the evergreen themes found in the incredible work of this literary master.”
Moore added,
“As a long-time fan of Philip K. Dick’s work, it’s a tremendous honour and thrill to be part of this series,” said Ronald D. Moore. “His short stories are a treasure-trove of material for artists to draw from and I think this will be a very exciting project.”
Channel 4 Chief Creative Officer Jay Hunt also added a comment and excitement for the upcoming series and involvement of Moore and Cranston.
“Philip K. Dick’s short stories have shaped iconic Hollywood films from ‘Blade Runner’ to ‘Minority Report.’ ‘Electric Dreams: The World of Philip K Dick’ will adapt and modernise his singular vision for a TV audience. We are thrilled to be partnering with the talented team at Sony Pictures Television on an anthology series that brings together global stars of the calibre of Bryan Cranston and Ronald D. Moore.”
