The Best and The Worst Of True Blood Season 5

Now that season 5 of HBO’s “True Blood” has concluded, it is time to reflect back on the semi-terrible season we all just witnessed. Don’t get me wrong, there were some fantastic moments, moments were my girly squeals of glee echoed through my apartment, but those moments were leveled out by the multitude of times I said “what the fuck is happening?”

So, here is “True Blood” season 5 in retrospect.

I think it goes without saying, but just in case: SPOILERS AHEAD

Pros:

Russell is back, OF COURSE BECAUSE WHY KILL THE MOST DANGEROUS VAMPIRE? Though he falls in love with Steve Newlin, which is cute in its own creepy “lets drain a fraternity” kind of way. Denis O’hare is a fucking pro and handles his character like a boss.

CHRISTOPHER MELONI (do I really need to say more?)

Eric is finally back to the witty, sarcastic, intense viking we all love by the end of the season. We have missed you Eric.

Sam and Luna are naked this entire season. I’m pretty sure. This a pro because who doesn’t want to see them naked?

Luna’s daughter is a puppy the whole time too, which is freaking adorbs.

Pam does truly love Eric and she used to be a hooker. I love LOVE all the flashbacks to how they met.

Jessica glamours Hoyt to forget her and Jason. It broke my heart. Tears like waterfalls. But I saw the point in it. Definitely one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the entire season. Also the entire back and forth with Jessica and Jason. There are some genuinely sweet times between those two who can just never seem to get it together.

Alcide. Does anyone else feel like Sookie should give him an honest shot. He is sweet and loving and could treat her well. He also spends most of his time shirtless and growling which makes my heart and pants happy.

Vampire religion is a huge role this season. At first, I was annoyed however the more i think about it the more this social commentary didn’t feel as forced as some of the ones in the past. Also led up to Bill’s transformation in to the fucking worst.

Lafayette tells Alcide “don’t fucking growl at me.” Later he makes cajun margaritas and Merlotte’s is at peace once again.

Steve Newlin is a vampire now, wants a pet puppy, falls in love with Russell and then seems genuinely distraught at his death. His whole storyline. Gold.

Everything Roslyn said the entire season.

Sookie vomits on Alcide’s shoes. They do not talk about it.

Stoned vampires. Classic.

Jason says, “I don’t give a twirly fuck.”

Cons:

Bill has finally secured the role of being the fucking worst. Closely followed by Lillith.

CHRISTOPHER MELONI DIES! I wanted more shirtless Roman, more Meloni damnit!

Tara is a vampire. Her character has annoyed me from the beginning, and her whininess only gets worse now that she has fangs and can’t die.

PAM IS NOT FULLY UTILIZED. She spends the entire season with Tara. Then they make out.

Jason rebuffs Jessica’s love in the end.

Eric bangs his vampire sister.

We learn literally nothing about Worlow.

As in previous seasons, even more storylines are added to this season that no one cared about:

Terry and Ifrit. I literally forgot this whole storyline existed because once it was over, I forced it out of my mind.

Listen, I am all for any reason for Alcide to be shirtless/naked but I do not care about him and his “should I/shouldnt I be pack master” shit.

The fairy elder. What the fuck was that about? I’m glad she got drained.

Andy impregnated that fairy lady, whose “light breaks” and proceeds to pop out four fairy babies and promptly leaves. It took a whole season to lead up to that.

The hate group killing “supes.” They wear Obama masks and it feels forced. This is a storyline I could have done without.

Jacob Hopkins Talks Being A Vampire On True Blood Season 5

During a recent interview over at our sister site, BSCkids, young actor Jacob Hopkins answers some questions about the upcoming season 5 of HBO’s “True Blood.”

There is little we know about his character in the upcoming series but we do know that Jacob plays one of the oldest vampires on the Vampire authority yet he is the youngest looking. His character, Alexander Drew, was turned at the tender young age of 9. However, don’t let his angelic face fool you, the old vampire is very cunning and very manipulative. Alexander will be known for being impetuous towards those around him.

Jacob described his character of Alexander as being “a feisty and strong-minded vampire.  He’s the kind of vampire who likes to taunt others.  He may look young, but looks can be deceiving.  He’s very wise and he pretty much makes himself heard.”

Some actors may find it difficult to play an age older or younger than themselves, let alone decades older, yet Jacob took the task in stride with confidence. He described how the other actors on set helped him get into the mindset of the old vampire.

I prepared Alexander to think like he was more important than anyone on the council or anyone who was in the same room as him.  It didn’t matter if I was 9 or not, Alexander is old and wise.  Once I was on set, it helped to be around all the other adult actors too.  I was in a suit and tie, sitting with the council, I felt like I was Alexander and a part of it all.”

He went on to credit fellow “True Blood” newcomer Christopher Meloni as an actor who taught him the most.

I have learned a lot from Chris Meloni because he would rehearse in front of everyone and he didn’t mind, and if he made a mistake, he would just go right back into it and he is such a great role model.”

And it is nice to know that Jacob loved his experience on “True Blood” saying that it was his favorite project thus far to work on.

I loved working with such nice people, great actors and I loved wearing my fangs!”

“True Blood” season 5 begins on June 10th and you can see Jacob starting on June 17th.

Full Trailer for True Blood Season 5

HBO has finally premiered the full trailer for the upcoming season 5 of “True Blood.”

Season 5 will include several new cast members such as Christopher Meloni, most know for working on “Law & Order: SVU.” Details on who his character will be has yet to be released. Also joining this season is Scott Foley as Patrick, one of Terry’s war buddies. Louis Herthum will join as JD, Alcide’s father and Kelly Overton will appear as Rikki, a werewolf curious about Marcus. It has also been revealed that Carolyn Hennesy will play Rosalyn Harris, a texas vampire thrown into the mix.

Alan Ball has cast the reoccurring role of Alexander Drew for the upcoming season 5, a Chancellor of the vaunted Vampire Authority.

“True Blood” is based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries series of novels by Charlaine Harris. The novels follows the world as the existence of vampires are revealed and the two groups of humanity struggle to co-exist around the world. The novels focus primarily on the town of Bon Temps, a small town in Louisiana and the life of telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse.

The new season will premiere June 10th. You can see what we already know about season 5 here, or just watch the trailer below.

10 Things We Know About Season 5 of True Blood

Season 5 of “True Blood” may feel like it is taking forever to arrive (June!) but at least there are a few spoilery things we already know going into the new seasons.

This article is written assuming you have seen season 4.

RUSSELL IS BACK!

One of the first things we learned about season 5 was t hat neurotic and evil vampire, Russell Edgington, is back and ready to wreak havoc in everyones lives.

At the end of season 4 we saw his cement tomb broken open and the vampire king of Mississippi gone. Eric as already accused Pam releasing him, but as of now we don’t know who has done it or why. However, he is probably reasonably more upset and crazy than before and if he before he ripped a spine out of someone on live television we can only imagine what he is capable of now that he is pissed off instead of just distraught.

Steve Newlin is also returning

Close-minded anti-vampire activist Rev. Steve Newlin is also returning and it appears he has been turned. His return as a member of the undead was revealed in the season 5 trailer. However, given the tricksy nature of Bon Temps and the “True Blood” world, everything should be taken lighting till we see it for sure.

If he is now a vampire, will he still be in love with Jason, and will he still be annoyingly preachy? Or has he replaced that with a penchant for drinking blood (and probably being happier for it.)

Pam and Eric might no longer be “Pam and Eric”

We know that Eric is Pam’s maker, but we also know she has been incredibly faithful to him for MANY years. Despite her constant lashing out regarding his feelings for Sookie and her “precious fairy vagina.” Through four seasons she has remained by his side, albeit full of anger and sarcasm. However, after a recent clip was released for season 5, it seems she will no longer be by his side. She even goes so far to request him to release her from their bond that most fans thought was mutual rather than maker-bound.

There is a bromance a-brewin’

In an interview recently with E Online, Alexander Skargard, the hot distraction known as Eric, revealed some insight into the weird eskimo-bro relationship that is Eric and Bill.

“There’s a bit of a bromance between going on this year between Eric and Bill…It’s fun because I love Stephen Moyer to death, and after four years of butting heads, this is more like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. We have a common enemy and we have to team up this year.”

Eric and his … Sister?

Not much is known about her… at all. What we do know that she is her Vampire sister, sired by Godric to be part of their Vampy family.

The character is to be played by Lucy Griffith, and during a recent interview with TV Guide, she said this about the character:

“She’s an irreverent British lady who we think was turned during Elizabethan or Victorian times. It’s been years since she’s seen Eric, and she is very excited. She looks up to him, but they’ve had a fiery love/hate relationship in the way that brothers and sisters do.”

Sounds creepy to me. Hopefully she isn’t the same brunette we see Eric kissing in the trailer.

Chris Meloni, need I say more?

A few months ago it was revealed that SVU star Chris Meloni would be in Season 5 as a Vampire named Roman and a member of “The Authority.”

We don’t know much about what his character will be like in the series, but what ever it is, I’m sure it is bad-ass.

There is going to be a lot more Terry

Last season we saw the entrance of a character played by Scott Foley. He was Terry’s platoon leader in Iraq and from what we have seen, it appears that some really terrible stuff went down while they were serving. While nothing is ever as simple as mean people and PTSD, we assume something more is going on behind the scenes.

However, having more sweet lovable Terry in the show is definitely a win.

More Fairies…

So far we have only gotten small glimpses into the true fairy world. We met Claude, who helped Sookie escape from Fairy land, who turns out is part of a fairy triplet set that includes Claudine, who is already dead after Eric drained her, and Claudette.

According to Deadline, we will be meeting Claudette for reals during this new season. Supposedly she will be helping Sookie learn more about her Fae roots and their way of life. However, I don’t suspect that will go over so well. You know, with all the vampires… that are everywhere… all the time.

Jessica and her well … something

What is going on with Jessica and Hoyt? After their incredibly cute relationship that ending increibly badly, we can’t  help feel bad for Hoyt… in a way that makes us want to hug him… forever. So where do they stand in the new season? Not much is certain, but if he dies, or becomes a vampire… I might cry.

Sam and Luna got some trouble headed their way

A new clip released a few weeks ago feature shape shifters Sam and Luna talking about something pretty mysterious. What we do know is that Sam is going to protect his woman. No matter what she turns into. Who is going after who is the question but with Sam at her side, they will probably be fine… right?

Each of the three videos follow a camera through an empty place from the show. Sookie’s house, then Fangtasia, and the third features Bill’s house. Overheard are echoes from everything that has happened in those locations in the past.

“True Blood” is set to return to HBO this summer.

Child Becomes Powerful True Blood Vampire

The American television series True Blood, created and produced by Alan Ball has cast the reoccurring role of Alexander Drew for the upcoming season 5, a Chancellor of the vaunted Vampire Authority. Also known as “The” Authority for emphasis.

Based on “The Southern Vampire Mysteries” novel series by Charlaine Harris, True Blood is about the co-existence of vampires and humans in a fictional world were vampires have revealed themselves to be unliving amongst humans. To sway humans that they’re no threat to them, a blood substitute called True Blood is popularized as the alternative to human blood. The television series focuses on the fictional small town of Bon Temp, in Louisiana, around the adventures of Sookie Stackhouse; played by Anna Paquin. Sookie here is a well-to-do waitress with telepathy and problems discerning love and lust.

Though the veneer of the show is about vampires and other supernatural creatures that go bump in the night, True Blood is essentially the fantasy version of racial tension, bigotry and organized crime.

Alexander Drew will be played by nine year old child actor

Jacob Hopkins, the Newest Face of Evil

, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

Well hopefully this will be one supernatural creature that Sookie won’t be sleeping with. I know, it would end up breaking the theme of the show and possibly other vampire related filmography that encourages old vampires and underaged teens.

As the member of the Authority, Alexander Drew is a Chancellor of the vampire governing body. Turned at the age of nine. Thanks to the suspended belief of immortality, Drew is most likely an ancient creature that has lived longer than Erik Northman’s maker, Godric. I suggest this because usually in vampire related storytelling, age equates to power. So frozen in time in the body of a nine year old, Drew is probably three thousand years old. Or at least old enough to know he’s missing out on life.

Alexander has been described as an impetuous vampire who likes to taunt those around him, irritating his fellow council members and smoking cigarettes. Whether or not HBO will ever show the child smoking is another matter. Even if they CGI it.  I would be worried because of impressionable idiot children that irresponsible parents let watch the show might light up. Said parents will probably attempt to blame True Blood for convincing their children to smoke their favorite brand of cigarettes; up to only three packs a day now.   Ow!  Circular thought. In your heart you know this to be true.

So yay. Another creepy vampire child. In a fantasy world that forbids making children into vampires. They had problems turning redhead Jessica into a vampire because she was a teenager. It’s really annoying when the powerful get to flaunt how badly they break their own rules.

Many vampire shows and films often brandish a child vampire at one point or another. Often emphasizing power in an unexpected form. Same thing with superheroes. The more innocent, cute and young the vampire or superhero appears, the more powerful they are. For vampires the set includes knowledgeable and ruthless. Oh, and did I forget to mention evil?

To truly make this a shocking twist would have been to move away from the child vampire cliché. Instead they could make the member of the vampire ruling class an evil dolphin or infant that spoke in a creepy baritone, like King Xerxes in 300.

The fifth season of “True Blood” begins this summer.

In Bon Temps, Nothing Stays Buried Forever

That is all we get as a teaser for the upcoming season 5 of True Blood. You can watch the teaser above and see for yourself. Unfortunately it doesn’t disclose much for what we are in for in the new season. It was announced on August 11, 2011 that HBO had renewed True Blood for a fifth season of 12 episodes to air in summer 2012.  Continue reading
